Top 5 Most Important Horror Films In History

It's Halloween! For us film geeks (read: losers) it means we're gonna be watching a good horror or halloween themed movie instead of getting drunk in a bad costume like everyone else.

Anyway without further ado, here's my list of the most important horror films in history:

1. The Exorcist (Director: William Friedkin)

Chosen by TV Guide as the scariest movie of all time. The religious element made it a big draw in the mid-seventies. Always capable of making you jump out of your seat.

2. Ring (Director: Nakata Hideo)

Imagine a horror film that can scare the sh!t out of you without ever showing a drop of blood. (note: I have not seen the Gore Verbinski remake of this film called The Ring yet.)

3. The Shining (Director: Stanley Kubrick)

Kubrick's masterpiece of modern horror, modern horror before classic horror movies were destroyed into corny teen movies. It's not so much scary as it is creepy. This film was also one of the first films to make extensive use of the Steady Cam.

4. Alien (Director: Ridley Scott)

Alien an extraordinary movie of terror and mystery. In the history of science fiction, we can say that Alien is a very important movie, maybe one of the most important.

5. Carrie (Director: Brian De Palma)

This movie is also important in the history of horror because it's the film that made Steven King's career. It also played a major role in the careers of Sissy Spacek and John Travolta and even Brian De Palma.

That's all for now, have a Happy halloween!

"It's Halloween, everyone's entitled to one good scare." Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Leigh Brackett in Halloween)
