Crap like this disgusts me. It seems everywhere I look, people are trying to tell you that they know what's right for you. What exactly was their conclusion that her hair and dress was "disrupting other students" based on? Do you think anyone actually complained? And if so...who becomes the judge of what is disruptive, but the school can't do anything about, and what is disruptive and the school should ostrasize you for it? If a student were to complain that someones face distracted them, do you think the principle would send them home to get plastic surgery? No! I know this is extreme and it's hardly the same thing, and I know that the persecution of someone different is nothing new either, but it seems lately that more and more it's become a beaurocratic process to decide what is and isn't right/normal.
It's just another symptom of peoples unwillingness to accept people w/out judgement and just let people do their own thing. I hardly think that her hair or dress were hurting anyone(despite the schools rediculous claims that they were fearfull someone might trip on it.) Bah...this crap gets me too worked up. I could rant for hours, but I'll stop now cause I don't have the energy and I'm sure you don't want to read it. But please people...if you see someone who's different and freaks you out...just think about whether they are hurting anyone...chances are they're not.
I'm proud of Jade's parents. They did the right thing! They supported their child and didn't give in to meaningless rules. Hopefully she won't be too jaded(pardon the pun) by the intolerance she encounters and will instill those same values in her children some day.

It really is a shame that our schools have come to this. What was with the long dress thing? I havn't seen it of course, but it sounded like a normal full length dress. It used to be that girls were sent home for having short skirts, now it's long dresses?
