CBS has offered David Letterman $31.5 million a year plus bonuses to persuade him to remain with the network, the Associated Press reported today (Thursday), citing an unnamed network source. Under the proposed deal, Letterman would also receive additional salary increases, the wire service said. The AP report follows one by Time Inc.'s Entertainment Weekly saying that ABC had offered Letterman $31 million a year to leave CBS.
That's when the rumors started quickly spread Wednesday that if CBS loses David Letterman, the network will replace him with radio shock jock Howard Stern. Internet gossip Matt Drudge claimed that Stern's agent, Don Buchwald, had been on the phone "nearly non-stop" with the network. However, the New York Post's "Page Six" column today (Thursday) quoted Catholic League president William Donohue as vowing to fight CBS advertiser by advertiser if it fills Letterman's slot with Stern. "CBS is out of its mind if it thinks it can get away with moving Howard Stern into the Letterman slot without a fight," Donohue said. "No one in the entertainment business has angered Americans across the board more than Howard Stern."

I would rather see Stern than Letterman. Letterman has lost his sting and now relies on his reputation instead of his talent.

I agree with you Moose regarding Dave losing his touch, truth is he lost it over 10 years ago. Once upon a time, he was the man. However, Stern is a played out chump, his act got old a long time ago, I'd rather they took a chance with an up and comer, or brought back Carson for a couple of months.

Howard is a God. And i would watch him Everynight. You old bastards dont stay up late anyway. Put Stern on I say, and my generation will stay up all night watching Him.
There is no doubt More People would watch if it was Offensive. They would watch and bitch, moan and write letters. But they would watch every night. Stern has proved this A long time ago. And is doing it today. They is america and i want to turn on tv and be offended. I wouldnt have it any other way.

Stern is played out! I am not intreiged by his over the top antics but cannot help but see his ugly mug when fliping through the channels. It's allways the same tired routine with that stupid Robbin laughing at his crap. Oh what a waste of life those to are.
