According to multiple reports, Hsu Li-Kong, producer of the original, just confirmed that shooting of the prequel of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will start in May next year and Ang Lee will return as the director. Hsu, a long-time friend and working partner of Ang Lee, is currently in Los Angeles and has met Lee. They have agreed that the script should be penned by Wang Hui-ling from the writing team of the original, to inject the sprit of the original into the prequel. Hsu said this one will "reflect the classic Chinese arts, traditional wuxia spirit and the sole of Chinese martial arts." Unfortunately, the script has yet to be finalized but time is not a big concern. They got over a year to finish it.
The prequel will probably be based on part II (Precious Sword, Gold Hairpin) and part III (Sword Force, Pearl Shine) of the Iron-Crane Pentalogy. The title will like be Precious Sword, Gold Hairpin. In these two parts, young Li Mu Bai met and fell in love with Yu Shu Lien, who had already been engaged to Li's sworn brother Meng Si Zhao. Yes, there is a love triangle and it ended up as a tragedy, just like the original. Li Mu Bai's master Southern Crane, who has briefly mentioned in the original, played an important role in their relationships. It is still too early to tell whether Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh will return but one thing for sure - Zhang Ziyi will not be in. Ang Lee, however, is currently preparing the big budget comic book based HULK, which will be released in the summer of 2003.
According to another report, Ang Lee said Chow Yun-fat is not the only candidate for playing Li Mu Bai. Jet Li, who has turned down the role for the original, is also being considered.

Yeehaw! We need more movies like this.
If Jet is in this one it will be the ideal role for the world champion Wushu Master.
Chow Yun Fat did well but could not be considered a Wushu master with his performance. He is after all just an actor.
The action in this trilogy will put the Matrix trilogy to shame.

Well said Random freind!
One time Chow and I battled each other just to see who would win, and I took him out with my White Crane choke hold using my genitals. No American martial artist could ever do that. However if they could they would be quite menacing indeed since their genitals are so much larger than ours. I lost out the role I wanted for "XXX", so this one should be fun.

I knew this idiot would have something stupid to say about this topic and nothing else better to do.
You are really funny man... no really, you are. I mean it. You are not a putz and your Jet Li comments are not stale, they are the life of Dtheatre. (yawn).
Anyway, I think this movie will be one of the most anticipated films, more so if Jet Li is in the line-up. After all the original role was meant for him. Perhaps this movie is a better proposition because it focuses on his character rather than Zang Zhi Yi.

I thought the original was a great movie but it's stupid comparing it to The Matrix. The Matrix was more of a cross between Hong Kong martial arts, Hollywood action, Sci-fi, Japanese anime and spagetti westens, it's like comparing Armageddon with The Fugitive.

We are talking credible martial arts here. In that sense it will be better than Matrix. Of course these 2 movies are not the same. But when it comes to Kung-Fu fighting Chinatown style is better than Hollywood.

Yes you are correct, another one of my fans. Did you lick me in "Once upon a Time In China", that should have won at least 7 oscars, my acting is brilliant. Nick Stahl is hot! You all love me so much!

Ironic then that all the fighting choregography in the matrix was done by one of the best guys in the business that had been working in Hong Kong movies for years.

If you think that MI:2's fight scenes are a copy from Matrix, then you should see a John Woo's movie ten years ago.

The fighting choreography could be done by the best in Hong Kong but whats the point of all the choreography if you only have lame actors like Reeves, Fishburne or Weaving doing the martial arts? At least if Michelle Yeoh is in Matrix: Reloaded, their might be some fighting credibility. Thats what makes the difference between Hollywood and Chinataown, the fighters.
Cant wait for Crouching Toger 2 :)

I'm a kung fu master from China and no one should even be allowed to say Kung fu unless they are a martial arts master like me and they praise every single Asian movie as a work of cinematic art and admit that Hollywood movies are all just inferior copies!

I think we can figure out who suffers from "small penus syndrome" on this site.
Jet-li and skullfire, have you considered a sex change? Because you 'guys' obviously have serious issues about your manhood!

I've sometimes wondered what it would be like to be a woman, but then again I've also wondered what it would be like to have a woman. I'm so desperately lonely.

Jet Li, 100% American and RED dont post anymore because they are cowardly pussies who cant even keep their identity secret even with 3 aliases. Same with Powertrip, these d1ckheads thought they were hot sh1t but realised that nobody shares their humour or opinions.
Good riddance!!! Crawl back under your lonely rock you faggots, you cant even make friends on the internet let alone your real lives.
