Crocodile Hunter Feature Has Begun Shooting

Steve Irwin is fearless, insane and could easily have the worlds largest gonads and now he's going to have a movie.

For those of you who don't know who: Steve regularly wrestles crocodiles and feral pigs, is repeatedly bitten by snakes and lizards, and is routinely kicked and punched by emus and kangaroos. When not so engaged, Steve and Terri (his wife) are busy rappelling down cliffs and mine shafts, often getting stuck in dangerous places, or back home tending their wildlife park, trying not to get eaten as they clean the cage. They do all this on TV in the Steve hosted show: "The Crocodile Hunter".

SYDNEY (Variety) - MGM has captured Steve Irwin, fearless star of the Animal Planet series "The Crocodile Hunter," for his own feature.

"Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course" has begun shooting in and around the northern Australian city of Brisbane, Daily Variety has learned.

Details of the shoot are being kept tightly under wraps, but the film is said to portray elements of Irwin's unconventional life.

Better known Stateside than at home, Irwin runs Australia Zoo near Brisbane. When he was a child, Irwin's family took over the Queensland Reptile & Fauna Park. There the budding croc hunter fed and cared for the park's reptiles.

Legend has it that by the time Irwin was 9, his dad had taught him to jump into the rivers in North Queensland and catch crocodiles to keep at the park.

The film's cast also includes Irwin's American wife, Terri, Magda Szubanski (the "Babe" pictures), David Wenham ("Moulin Rouge"), Kate Behan ("Chopper") and Steve Bastoni ("He Died With a Felafel in His Hand").

That guys a riot, they paradied him on Saturday Night Live and it wasn't nearly as funny as he is, although the Cartman imitation on South Park was a little funnier.

Just like with Wrestlers and Evil Kenevil, kids are starting to copy this guy: Going after CopperHeads and such. My boys love the ideal of it, but the Great Danes up the street keep them from taking it too seriously.

Steve Irwin is a senstationalist. He makes out everything is far more dangerous and he makes out he is always really close to danger. The truth is he sedates a lot of the crocks before wrestling them. And "downunder" we all think he is a "crock of sh*t" as in "full of it". So I'm sure the movie just like the TV show will make him out to be some extroadinary hero with a huge amount of poetic license for a US audience that doesn't really know any better. He's riding on the Croc Dundee fame making it out like he is the real thing. I'm an Aussie now living in the US and I cringe everytime I meet someone new whose first response to finding out where I'm from (after being corrected that I'm not from England) is "wow, how about that Croc Hunter guy, he's great...". The truth is there were plenty of Australian nature documentary TV series done by much more legitimate people in the 80's and early 90's, and these were 10 times more educational and interesting to watch. Malcolm Douglas was my favorite, and if its laughs you want you should have seen the Leyland brothers, it was like dumb and dumber in the outback "Where are we Mike?" "Buggered if I know Mal"

Now, let me see if I have this straight mate; you would be willing to jump on a Croc, wrestle with it, contain it, transport it, and release it elsewhere all WITHOUT the use of a sedative?  Not likely, I'm sure!  Puh-Leeze, you wouldn't be caught dead (well maybe YOU would) doing the kinds of things that he and his wife do in a average day.  So until you do, why don't you just be quiet.  I'm sure you are in the minority on this one.
