Hmmmm. I am surprised that we see no Evil Dead, Krull, Night of the Lupus or Judge Dredd posters in the top fifty. What is up???

Good God,
Is it a slow newsweek or what? Why not just pick the top fifty shots of Walter Matheau's nose hair, or the top fifty cleavage shots of girls nobody wants to sleep with?

It's obviously a mistake; read the text at the top of the page. The second film should be Rocky, not Rocky Horror (actually, there are two mistakes, Rocky should be 47 and Requiem for a dream should be at 48)

Okay well I don't agree with them all but in responce to all the comments the reason van damme and judge dred and john wayne posters weren't chosen were because maybe their movies don't have especially awesome posters. It's the poster here not the movie or the actor that's being judged.

Ok, no one here has seen Vertigo, Forbidden Planet, or Anatomy of a Murder? And you call yourself movie fans? Vertigo was one of Hitchcacks best films. And the older posters really were more creative than the posters for the movies now. I don't think very many of them could compete. These are all classic movies with very striking posters as well. And as for modern movies they have: The Truman Show, Alien, Star Wars, Requiem (which was an awesome movie),Before Night Falls, Forest Gump, Silence of the Lambs, and Jaws. Sorry, Tomb Raider wasn't on it to brighten up your day.

eraserhead is unwatchable unless you are on heavy drugs [like i was when i first saw it] but be prepared fpr a rough ride......
note:mel brooks saw it and hired the films creator to direct "the elephant man". the director was david lynch..
"these are man-made chickens! look at my knees!"
"we think it a baby..."
and the girl with softballs in her cheecks, singing while getting rained on by giant sperm who lives in the radiator....

One of the coolest posters of all time has to be Reservoir Dogs. But I agree with those who've said that this is a bit of a lame discussion. How about the best movie trailers that actually turned out to be bad movies?

Hey man, there's no need to swear. Why didn't you just say: Female dog, virgina, clitorus, breasts, make love, bottom, excretment.

Well, I'm a designer, so this kind of stuff is actually very important to me.
And if you're a true movie buff, you'd agree that some movie posters are important works of art... I mean, look at VERTIGO or THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM. Those are gorgeous illustrations that defined a whole new style... truly amazing stuff.
But hey, if it's not your thing then it's not your thing.
However, I do find it disturbing that people here will spend hours talking about the new Star Wars trailer for a movie that may or may not suck as badly as the Phantom, yet they can't appreciate something as timeless and collectible as a good movie poster.
And yeah the Resevoir Dogs poster is kick-ass.
