The Moviehole Web site reported a rumor that comic writer Brendan McCarthy and director George Miller are working on a fourth installment in the Mad Max franchise. In a brief interview with the site, McCarthy told them that Mad Max IV will be a "serious, savage, sexy, surreal sequel. ... We looked at every action-car-biker movie going. Pretty much all of them have dated badly, except The Road Warrior. That's our competition."
McCarthy also said he had met with Mad Max star Mel Gibson a while back and hoped that Gibson would reprise the role in the proposed sequel. But of course, it's all just a rumor for now.

hang in there, Mad Max breaks out of the outback, rides the waves to the mid east and WHIPS some ugly on the terrorists, with the army of ne'er do wells as his cohorts.

Does he have an Austrailian accent?
I know he was raised in Austrailia (He was born and lived his first few years in Peekskill, New York), but he's been living in the U.S. for a really long time. In interviews he doesn't sound Austrailian.
By the way, I saw "Training Day" last night, and it was great!

No kidding?
I heard that before Pitt got his role in that movie (Dance with the Devil or the Devil's Own, I forget) he did with Harrison Ford: about the American police officer and the kid in the IRA. Well, originally they had casted Mickey Rourke, who used an Irish accent so thick that it was tough for test audiences to understand. The Director pleaded with Rourke to tone it down, but he refused, so they fired him. Maybe in the new Mad Max, they could utilize some other of these new popular Autrailian actors: Pierce, Crowe. The Road Warrior is still pretty violent even by todays standards, I hope they stay within the story lines, and don't muck it up.

With Mel onboard it?ll be fine, although recently all his movies have lacked substance. Perhaps this possible fourth Mad Max film may surprise us with new digital movie magic. It may be fun, unless Mr. Gibson sells out again to a pathetic sequel script, like the last Lethal Weapon with Pesci, Russo and Chris Rock. Shame on you!

Like it wont be hard to surpass 1, 2 or 3.
The CGI would probably carry the movie, strand him on a planet with talking monkeys maybe, directed by John Woo so we have 40+ minutes of slo-mo shots.....my nose is bleeding already. Sick of sequels, sequels, sequels, prequels, get me some dayquil, I'm gonna be sick!
What about Mel in space? Think we need Mel in space. {now most of you probably just thought of ....hmmm...Max Max in Space....or...hmmmm.....Aliens vs Mad Max...??}
Let's get serious, let go of the sequel coat tails, put down the "hey, this comic book would make a great movie" map and venture off into the creative unknown.
....that and.....does anyone know when Star Trek #10 being released???!?!??! :)

A couple of things here, "Temple of Doom" is actually a prequel not a sequel, the word is Australian not Austrailian, Leathal Weapon 2, 3, and 4 were all pretty good for sequels, if the poor Americans can't understand the Aussie accent then too bad and if Mel Gibson is going to be in Mad Max 4 as Max Rockatansky then the movie should be OK.

bexley, king of the anal nitpick.
but one correction i will make is i shoulda said his accent was thick as 'bad' denotes a negative aspect which was unintentional
his accent was as hard to understand as some welsh, scotch, irish ones i've heard.
in america it was redubbed due to americans not being able to follow what he said. what's up your ass?
low aussie esteem?
i do believe it sucks that australia is only known for fosters, crocodile dundee, kangaroos, and several sayings as 'shrimp on the barbie' here in america
there are better things to be known for in australia
Keep it real...

As long as it still does a good job of conveying a bleak, post-apocalyptic grungie, raider infested world I would watch it
If it sways too much from Road Warrior I won't spoil the experience. BTW, I didn't know Mel was an aussie. BTW LW 4 did blow, I hope he doesn't do Max 4 just for the money... after all it IS the movie that launched his career.

Ouch. How rude! Thanks to the Ozzie's we didn't have to send our guys to Indonesia, to free EAST Timor. Perhaps the idea of jungle warfare scared us? Also how many allies stuck with us in Vietnam? Australia, New Zealand (those damn nuke hating commie scum) Thailand, Sth Korea. Sorry, forgive me. I am probably agruing with a 12yo from Idaho.

Mel is from Australia you stupid doofus. Even if he was from NY where the f*ck do you think he grew up, learned how to speak and act? AUSTRALIA. Same with Russel Crowe, he loves Australia more than any other country. And just for the record I hate the way Mel acts. He is a f*cking over-actor no matter what role he is playing, kinda like Tom Cruise, they do too much twitching and sh*t when they act, so fake and unconvinving (except maybe to Americans). As for LW4. The only thing that made that movie close to decent or money-making was the master "Jet LI". Not Mel gibson! The fans wouldnt even cheer Mel when he came out to Asia to promote LW4, they gave Jet Li a standing ovation instead. Russel Crowe is No. ! Aussie actor who is down to earth and will never forget his homeland or change his accent. Mel Gibson is just another Hollywood wash out, there are plenty of actors that can take his place.

Ouch! Stoopid dufus? That must hurt...someone, somewhere. Have u seen him in MM1? He obv. didn't learn to act in that film. I think he is an avg. actor (still). The MM films belong to the scriptwiters, directors and producers.
Ok. But Russell is still from NZ. (and this is not a bad thing).
All I am saying is that Oz (and NZ: The Quiet Earth) does produce GREAT films, however, unlike Hollywood, these films incorporate the help of different cultures. Watch Priscilla and wonder if Beineix's filmic translations can be seen? F**k, even Melbourne City had J.Chan do a film there.
I so much want to see a MM4, it doesn't need Mel. Altho. it would be nice.
Go and watch BadBoyBubby. Then thank Oz and Italy.
The point I was trying to make is that Oz film is a VERY COOL melting pot. Beats the f**k out of Hollywood.

Oy nobody gives down the banks to Mel Gibson.
He gave you major films to grow up onin the 8o's MMX1, 2 , Lethal Weapon, Braveheart. Hes a wilded, passionate actor, the guys cool.
Now, hes recently been polled as the tank of hollywood, the internal V8 engine of the Silverscreen after raking in Millions in directorail royalties from the Passion Of Christ-which is more than a movie. AMen.
He can pump as little or as much, i figure a little, moneywise but supportive directive wise with Miller he'll be aware of the franchise and love of Max Rock fans and want to uphold that status of Roadwarrior esqueness as stated in other reports. If he uses The guy from knights tale and patriot the OZ uy then good.
This film will be gutsy, roadworthy and true to auld mad max so hey ......you fellas making waves ....your turkeys!
