Matrix Oracle Passed Away

According to news from the Coming Attractions Web site, Gloria Foster, the 64-year-old actress who played the Oracle in The Matrix, died last weekend. The site said a representative of the Matrix production company Village Roadshow confirmed Foster's passing. The cause of death was not reported.

Foster had reportedly completed most of her scenes for the upcoming Matrix Reloaded sequel, which is currently in production. However, she had not shot any scenes for The Matrix 3. It's unclear how Foster's death will affect the production. Producers are already faced with the dilemma of how to deal with the death this summer of actress Aaliyah, who was also set to appear in both Matrix sequels.

2 dead and related to the Matrix?  Maybe the Matrix did it to stop the rest of us from learning more of the truth?          Think about it...

Listen, aardvark, I'm also thinking this explains why Keanu still can't act his way out of a paper bag if you lit it on fire and threw it onto your neighbor's porch.

Conspiracy?  Please, spare us the ham and cheese and go invent some more faux-Nostradamas postings will you.

You said it, there is no spoon.  So why do you have a double standard.  If there is no spoon why does Keannu's acting bug you. There is a reason for choosing Keannu in this role but unfortunately you have not figured it out. The brilliance of choosing Keannu was the Wachowski brothers' and there is not another actor that would have fit this role like a glove. Instead of Power Tripping dude, maybe you should go back and research/learn and then speak.

Why wasn't the oracle in Zion (xion?) at earth's core (the last human civilization?
The fact that they had to visit her in the matrix, made me interpret her as a creation of the matrix, and when she told neo he wasn't the one...it was to discourage him and throw him off track from his true identity - being "the one".

RE: Matrix Oracle Passed Away   > reply

good point, with the reprograming they can digitally portray her any way they want. Just like the matrix

the oracle was part of the matrix used to lead neo away from his true path...I thought it was stupid to have her in the matrix instead of the last human civilization...how could she have any credibility if she existed in the matrix?

Good point, except that one might consider that it would be more efficient to meet in cyberspace, where there is no need to reveal Zion's true location if being monitored, nor any need to actually travel real geographic distance.  It's like meeting up online, basically.  Morpheus was no more "fake" for Neo having met him through the Matrix than the Oracle was, right?

So, consider the Matrix a window into far locations that can be used and visited for more than one kind of purpose...for both humans that recognize the strengths and weaknesses, and for the Sentient programs as well.

The one hitch to this is why there should have been anyone ELSE just "sitting around" in the Oracle's "apartment."  I can see if folks also looking for answers convened there in cyber space, but to have those kids just hanging around, there's no reason for that at all.  That actually lends more credence to your idea than my attempt to rationalize it. ;-D

Actually, that makes for a great way to write out the actual death of the actress.  With special effects, they can rig it so that the Oracle is found out to be just that - a hyper sentient program that acts like an almost "benevolent" version of the Sentient proggies.  Like a mutation that is responding to the changes in the rebel Zion forces.

They don't respond to vinegar, great, then let's give them sugar, laced with disinformation, and allow them to come to us and tell us all their secrets.

Then there can be a scene where the Oracle trips up (maybe a bad moment where she deja vu's - which would need nothing more than a double run on a single filmed cell of the actress) and then perhaps Neo or another character can reach in and shatter her ala that Obsidian commercial. ;-D

Wouldn't that be a hoot - watching the Oracle get found out and destroyed?  No need to then figure out how to write her out of the scenes she didn't live to shoot, then.

Of course, it WOULD mean rewriting the entire film, probably.

I would, though - at least to make it consistent.

New Actor In Matrix Movies, Possible Oracle!?!?!   > reply

Posted by ilojmax (unlistedaddress@unlistedaddress.com) on May 2, 2002 9:00 PM

Yes I do have some information to share. There will be a new actor in the sequels, he will serve to my knowledge as some kind of an oracle, but I don't know if he will replace the lady who had died in the movie or how it will work. But as for who he is, he is unknown as of yet to the public, but this is a clue, that the "Knight" will come out of Dallas. I know that is not much to go on, but you're going to have to keep an eye out for the oracle that is the "Knight".

hi there...

I think that the Oracle looks like a Help Program.

To suport my theory I can give one scen: the scene of the trainning program that morpheus introduces Neo to the Agents, I think that The Orcale is a program writen by the first man who get unppluged from The Matrix.

Remember, Mouse has written the famous "Woman in Red".

I think he wrotes this program as a Guide System, like a tutorial, and the program is hidden in the main code of The Matrix.

How can the other people know where the Oracle are?

---- Easter Eggs ----

We have a lot of programs running in our computers with a lot o code lines hidden in it. When you search for an Easter Egg in the Net and have the access code to enable it, you say: Wow! This is really great!

Imagine an Easter Egg that shows you something for the program that is hidden. Like the possibility to see PVTs of other people in IRC? (This would be REALLY GREAT! @=))

Think about it...

Dr. PowerTrip
Keanu might not be able to act, that is true, yet, like Mr. T, he is a personality. And his personality is great for the movie, just like Mr. T as Clubber Lang.

The Oracle rocked. Deepest Sympathies. Long Live the Queen.

you need to think this through.  Did you see her in her last film, her talent was not up to par.  Gloria Foster however is a significant loss, she was perfectly cast and is sorely missed
