I am putting my faith in this movie.
It has been a long time since hollywood tried to make a "good" movie...
In preparation of the film, (and the eventual discovery of) I did not reread the stories, I suggest this in that it will allow you to enjoy with out nit-picking, the major scenes that stand out in my mind, have to be in the movie, so I imagine they had to chop something, there are always casualties in the rush to make movies.
but yes I too will be camped out, and plan on seeing it a few times, I will nit-pick the second time.

I never read the trilogy. Do you think I should read it before or after seeing the movie. Everyone says the movie's never as good as the book, but this one looks pretty darn good! Can't wait!

I have been waiting for these movies for twenty years! I whole-heartedly suggest reading the books (don't forget "The Hobbit") at some point. The movie looks like it will be great but it can't compare to the books.
Diehard fans be prepared for a few changes. Of course things will have to be cut, even with three movies to work with. Also things will be changed around a little, judging by the trailors that I have seen. It looks like they combine Arwen with Gildor(?) so that she is on screen more.
See ya there!

I haven't read the book yet...actually just starting it. The small bit of trailer I've seen in the theaters is VERY exciting. As a kid, The Hobit was an annual ritual on TV. I ended up buying the next cartoon version (Lord of the Rings) and was completely disappointed. I'm hoping the creators of this movie respected JRR Tolkein's view and do their best to keep the story as close as possible. See ya'll in the theater!

Considering, that the triology is perhaps one of the top five novels of the twentieth century. These movies will have much to live up to. The trailer I have seen has given me goose bumps,....and I am totally excited and cannot wait for this excellent novel to be on film at last

Although the trilogy is funded by a Hollywood studio, I'd still say it's not your standard 'Hollywood film'. I'd be much more worried if the story was directed by some 'big' director... Well, Jackson is 'big' but not as 'B I G' as he will be from now on ;)

The trilogy is considered by many to be the greatest books ever written, for a large point of view see the reviews for the trilogy at Amazon.com
I think reading the books now may taint your views on the upcoming movies, but reading the Hobbit is a great ideal. It is the book leading up to this trilogy that they are making now, and it is a good read. Jackson is a big Tolkien fan, and wants to stick to the story closley, but Hollywood tends to ruin even the most simple of plots. Better to enter the theatre with an open mind.

I think they will stick to the book as much as they can. I used to be a HUGE Elijah Wood fan and I know he has really been pushing for this movie for a while. I read that he wanted was talking to different directors when I was still in like 8th grade and I'm now a junior in college. So yeah he's a big Tolkien fan so I don't think he'd do a crappy Lord of the Rings movie. :)

well, lucky for you it is NOT a hollywood movie! It is being done by a New Zealand director - so no americanised slant on a non-american story...hollywood should have learnt that lesson after that dreadful Robin Hood - Prince of Theives rubbish they put out - Kevin C as an English medieval icon - ya right...

I agree. Anyone who has never picked up an lotr book should deffinately read the Hobbit. I think that you will miss alot of the story and real depth in the movies having never been exposed to it before. And yes, the trailer gave me goosbumps too.
