UK producer Jeremy Thomas sees no hope for the Coen brothers' To The White Sea going ahead after a hike in the Brad Pitt picture's budget.
Thomas said that the cost of the adaptation of James Dickey's existential WW2 novel has risen too high even though he had sold almost everywhere to international distributors. The effects-laden story of a bomber gunner shot down in Japan was originally scheduled to shoot early next year on location in Japan at a cost of around $55m.
"It's gone," said Thomas. "We were unable to sustain the budget size. It's a big gap."
The film would have seen Brad Pitt's character shot down and fighting his way to the sea while saying almost nothing. "The script is very unusual," Thomas said. "We needed elements like [Pitt and the Coens] to get it together".
Twentieth Century Fox was to have handled the film in the US, with leading international distributors such as Japan's Gaga Communications also on board. Thomas' London-based sales operation HanWay was handling international sales.

The book is unbelievable. Ultra-violent and non-boring.

Damn... Hadn't heard of this project, but it would *have* to be cool! Hope they work it out, Pitt or no.
"So" (dumbass) go watch Pearl Harbor 2 or Nutty Professor 8 instead... or whatever scintillating choices you'd prefer.

It sounds interesting. Pitt can play a wide variety of roles, he's a great actor. Perhaps in the future they can get better funding.

If the great Brad would take a million and then neg,. for a back end deal I bet they could make it for 54 mil. I'm so sick of these overinflated paychecks. Or lets say he goes for three that way he can pocket 1 mil. after his agent and management get theirs. Hollywood needs a reality check not a bigger paycheck.

I think Pitt has already made too many back end deals.

I read about these events at the SAC Museum. What some of those bomber crews went through to survive, we are very fortunate to have such brave men fighting for our country.
Isn't this about where 'Pearl Harbor' ended?

Hmm, Brad Pitt............he can definitely do it.
He can definitly produce it.
He can definitly get the project distributed.
But, he only sees the almighty dollar in the end of a minimal job.......no risk.
Get Edward Norton, he would jump into the role, if it is worth while..........he is very well educated, where Pitt is a friggin' retard!

This just in: DYAN MUTHUKUMAR was abandoned by his parents today, when they learned what a total loser he is. Pitt was quoted as saying: DYAN MUTHUKUMAR begged me to date him. If he did not drink urine so much I would have considered it.

Hey how do you know what Brad Pitt thinks? What are you implying that he thinks he's worth too much money. Precious and priceless is more the word for it. What you think he's that much into money. I think that alot of the movies that he is in mean something to him and it goes beyond money. So, therefore there is no better actor.
