Indy 4 Delayed until 2006

A fourth Indiana Jones movie won't begin production until at least 2006, at least according to an interview with producer George Lucas in a French magazine, Tele 7 Jour. The Dark Horizons Web site reported that Lucas told Tele 7 Jour that commitments to the Star Wars prequels will hold his attention at least until then.

"Up to 2005, my mind is focused on the Star Wars episodes," Lucas reportedly said. "I don't know how I can manage to find time for Indy before 2006. [Director] Steven [Spielberg] and [star] Harrison [Ford] agreed for a new adventure, but due to other projects, we are very busy. The most difficult thing will be to block on our schedule a whole year to focus only on Indy IV. Steven is not afraid of working on several projects at the same time, as writer, producer and director. I cannot do that."

As long as it gets made, perhaps with lots of time to consider a great story, it will turn out all the better. Hope hope.

5 more years!  Who the heck knows what they're going to be doing in 5 years?  I don't mean this badly in any way because he is a great actor but, how much older is Harrison going to look in 5 years?  And physically will he be up to an Indy 4?  I hope Lucas doesn't wait til '06 to start thinking of the storyline.

Where did the rumors even start about Indy 4? If it's so far away, I'm wondering why it became such a big deal now?

My opinion, scrap the Star Wars.  And devote some real quality time to making an awesome Indy 4. (Why do I think I'm going to get grief from Star Wars fans for this?)

2006!! Give me a break. Harrison Ford is finding it hard to stand up straight now, let alone in another 5 years. The only lost relic Indy will spend the whole movie looking for will be his reading glasses. Get another actor already. It worked for James Bond. And if anyone says "but ford IS Indiana Jones" needs to conduct a reality check on themselves. It's a movie. Actors get old. Great characters are immortal.

I agree. The only way I could possibly see Ford doing Indy 4 is to have him in a role similar to Connery's in 3. Indy and his son go in search of the fountain of youth. Besides, that I don't even know how much I want Lucas involved in the production, looking back on the "Jar Jar Binks disaster." What the hell was that? Lucas, If you read this at all, listen to me! Do the Star Wars prequels if you must. We'll go see them reguardless of how much they suck, but hand Indy over to someone else. Sam Raimi, Kevin Smith, Tim Burton just to name a few talents I'd love to see at the helm. Nothing against Speilburg, but he's got so much to do already. For the fans, stop being greedy and give us what we want! Another Indy adventure!

Please not Tim Burton.  Indy is way to lighthearted for his kind if Dark Handed treatment.  I want to be able to enjoy the moive.

I agree that they should forget about Star Wars, being that they can have anyone play the parts now. Where as Ford is getting to old to wait another 5 years. Start filming now before you see Indy riding a wheelchair instead of a horse.

In response to all the comments that ford is too old, and that a good character transcends the actor playing him - I think Bruce Campbell would make an awesome indy. He's ripened into the role!

Go ahead Lucas. Wait until 2006. You could always do a cgi character that looks like Harrison Ford. After Episode 1, no one is expecting any kind of story from you. Why should we care if you stink up another great american movie franchise. Maybe Jar Jar could even make a guest appearance.

Now Children!!
Stop all this arguing!!!
I agree Harrison Ford is too old for the role now. I'd like to see him come back, but Reality Check!!! Sean Patrick Flannery has some experience with the role already; Why not him? Why not have an unusual Indy? Nicholas Cage? A pretty Indy; Ryan Phillipe. A black Indy? Morris Chestnut, Shemar Moore. See? The possibilities are endless once you think outside the box. I'm old enough to remember these movies coming out on a BIG screen in 70mm 6-track sound. What're those wrinkles gonna look like in Digital Picture? I agree: Harrison Ford should come back as a long lost father to a baby Indy that Marion or that shrew from "the Temple Of Doom" has given birth to, or finding out that the young competitor that keeps beating him to his sites is a nephew Or niece? (Angelina Jolie? Nicole Kidman?) I also agree. Keep you fingers in the pie if you must Lucas, But find a new director to spice it up. (Mr. Madonna Maybe?) Trt these suggestions on fer size!!!

Lucas is the world's biggest wussy.

Jude Law would probably make a great Indiana Jones (see enemy at the gates, he does a good scruffy action hero, he just has to be cheekier like indy)  but only if he can do a quality American accent, if not screw him Indy has to be an american.

Are you saying you like Episode I Carson?  Nobody here is bossing anyone around.  We are simply giving suggestions.  It's not likely that either Lucas or Spielberg will ever read any of these anyway.  If they did, it would be completely up to them whether or not to use any of these suggestions.  You're telling the rest of us to shut up? Isn't this what this whole site is for?  People stating their opinions on what they've just read?  You did.  If you don't like the comments, you have a choice.  Post your own, or exit.

On a side note, I like the idea of a neice entering the story.  With Tomb Raider under her belt, I don't know if Angelina would be the best pick.  Too much comparison would happen. Maybe a young unknown actress could make her big debut?  Who knows?  We only have AT LEAST 5 years to wait to find out.

Fukin A right. If Ford can save dumb children in his copter, then he can do the stunts for the next Indy. I think there are lots of actors who could have been a great Han Solo (Gary Busey, Nick Nolte, Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood), but there can only be one Indiana Jones. Don't mess with perfection.

Replying to "100% American", yeah Ford is great, but please, Gary Busey, Nick Nolte, Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood, etc., as Hans Solo?  Did someone like "Space Cowboys"?Busey?  Maybe.  But I'll bet any of
THEM would say Star Wars is stretching things a bit.  These guys are great but they have their roles.  And they don't include Hans.

you all are talking about 2 hours of entertainment not life and i thought jar jar was a good character and remember lucas makes his movies for his adopted kids at skywalker ranch!!!!!!!

I hear ya, but I think Solo was missing a few traits that would have only improved upon his character, such as: stuble, a beer belly, a great mumble. Gary was too young at the time to pull it off (my bad), but I think Nolte and Nicholson would have both been great. Nolte doing his "always there" hangover talk. "Chewbacca go get the grumble grumble rrr", it could have been great. My point is that the Jones role is made for him, it fits. Yet, even in his other role which defines his career in a large way, its not quite as solid as the other...in my opinion of course.

Scrap making star wars and start making indys, true he's old but Harrison Ford can never be replaced, it just wouldn't be indy otherwise and it would ruin everything indy stands for if he is replaced.

My response to the idea of recasting Indy is let the poor charachter rest in peace. Yes, they did recast James Bond, but look what that did to the series. We haven't had a great bond film since the mid-sixties. Let Harry play him or let the series die peacefully.
