Producers of the next Bond film said that James Bond will once again drive an Aston Martin in the upcoming 20th 007 film. MGM, Eon Productions and Aston Martin said that the film is due for release in 2002.
Bond, once again to be played by Pierce Brosnan, will drive the new V12 Vanquish, which will be the fourth Aston Martin driven by the superspy character. The first was the legendary Aston Martin DB5, which Sean Connery's Bond drove in 1964's Goldfinger. In recent films, Bond has abandoned the British make for German-made BMWs. But now, it's back to the old British automotive roots.
And for the car buffs out there, here are just some brief details: the Aston weighs in about 4000 pounds, and it delivers 450 horsepower. Aston claims that 0 to 60 comes in about 4.5 seconds and 0 to 100 in less than 10 seconds.

Yeah but the Aston Martin wasnt the showcase car in GoldenEye or Tomorrow Never Dies (when hes at the college brushing up on his Danish)....the BMWs were the big special cars. The BMW Z3, 750iL and the Z8 were the showcase cars in the last 3, not the Aston Martins, they were just kinda there.

Perfect time for a quote. "They gave me an Aston Martin, but there was a problem with the surface-to-air missles, so it's in the shop"
Bill Murray
The Spy Who Knew Too Little
Which was the greatest 'Spy' movie ever.

Aston Martin was bought out by the Ford Motor Company several years ago to my recollection. Although, the cars are still made in England, like many Fords which are built in plants in Scotland, etc.

aston martin sucks. jeez what's wrong with BMW? they have their X-coupe concept, and their 2002 Z3 Roadster looks sweet. there's also the Z8/Z9.

Whats wrong with BMW? well first its a girls car, second its a mass produced yuppie mobile target at the grey faceless middle calss white collar worker - the antithesis of Bond. When did you last see your boss (or his girlfriend) driving an Aston (aside from Laura Croft who is probably not your bosses girlfriend)
I rest my case!

Are you out of your mind - Ford is to be praised for saving those two great old companies and letting them keep their integrity while updating their work practices. Jag never produced anything decent since the etype and its quality would leave you in tears - Aston after changing owners about a million times was dead broke. Now Jag has a high quality XJ (which looks exactly like the old unreliable one) an S type that is getting close to the old Mk2 concept and the marvellous, if overweight XK8. Yes the X type is a Ford rebadged and 4x4 but its the only wayto get an entry level car for the unwashed. The previous owner never did that. As for Aston they are back in the black thanks to the DB7 which at double the price of an XK8 still sold more than any other Aston. Now they have the Vanquish that takes them into Ferrari 550 territory - inconceivable previously. And they soon will have an entry level car (well at 100k, not for you)
So say thank you Ford whatever your other automobile sins.
