Now, I have never questioned Tim Burton's talent (until "Apes"). Now, I've got reason to question his sanity in it's entirety. Watch him ramble.

Burton would rather throw himself out of a window before doing a POTA sequel, eh? The average moviegoers of America couldn't be THAT lucky.

His early stuff was edgy and new, his latest stuff is the same as the early...which makes it stale.
I know its convoluted but what I'm saying is he needs to redefine his style and stop trying to play the mad scientist weirdo, he is making an ass out of himself.

Agreed. I think what makes burton that much more irritating is the fact that he is so willing to rebuff the public. I don't believe he gets it at all. Is he really content dismissing the public after that whole movie making is "childbirth" declaration? If so, he must really believe the masses are asses.

I think he absolutely does. I think this is a remnant of a childhood defense mechanism, as everyone knows Burton was a complete loser, outcast in his youth, I'm sure he labeled the general populace as ignorant morons for rejecting him. This view has obviously spilled over into his adult psyche, with unfortunate results (Planet of the Apes).

I would agree, years of being tormented by probably any and every person that had the pleasure of stumbling across what was a emotional retarded and socially dislexic boy child has resulted in his contempt for society,
after he had a few amazing hits in movies(justifying himself) he has allowed his ego to turn on the public, that in his mind terrorized his childhood, you should check out this interview he had way back when, after beetlegeuse, (if I can find it I will refer to you all)in which he touched on the subject of growing up, exceptional hostile reaction to the question ended the interview. make your own assumptions

Being an admitted bi-polar, I can't fault burton for not knowing which end is up. But to spit in the eye of not just the public, but his fans too. Well, he is in a self destruction frame of mind lately. Did you read that remark he floated out at Kevin Smith? "I don't read comic books," Burton said. Really? Then please explain Batman and he affliation with Superman. He is out of his mind. Making POTA kicked his ass. And we all paid for it.

maybe it was standing out in the desert for soooooo long. He litterally cooked his brain, add that to his abundant mental problems(that are obvious) and a suspected abuse of narcotics (I suspect) I would say that a "self destructive frame of mind" is understating the apparent deregard for the people that made him his money. I was a die hard Burton fan until recently, POTA really shattered what image Timmy had made of himself, and the outright antagonistic comments in this interview seem like he's trying to show off, Tim come on what are you trying to prove? Impressing your woman maybe? or did hollywood finally destoy your passion?
these questions will never be answered, since Tim apparently has stuffed his head up his own ass, which I would imagine isn't all that comfy, and would probably make me pretty salty too.

Being an admitted bipolar (yourself), or being (that Burton is) an admitted bipolar? One- no, actually -both of these statements is extremely offensive to bipolars everywhere (And no, I am not trying to be funny here). Are you going to go after people with cancer next? I hear Alzheimer's patients are easy targets, too.. How about people with eyeglasses? Yes, this may be a bit off topic, but hold on- how does this prejudice fit in to the first sentence of your comment?

wow someone forgot their medication today,
the fact that we are discussing the upbringing of another individual, not you and not anyone in your support group, settle down, relax, realize that we are allowed to discuss mental disorders, especially when it pertains to a certain misuse of directorial power.
now trust me if someone in the random shemp world want to really offend people with Bi-polar, manic depressive disorders, they would dig in to you like supper to a starving man(woman). read the article and all the comments. out of context, over 90% of the comments are inflammatory.

Listen shemp, I am bi-polar, so I know what I'm talkng about. You, obviously, do not.
One of the many tell-tale components of this disorder is to blow seemingly normal (if you can define that for me go ahead) questions out of proportion and then attack the questioner.
In Burton's case, the public is questioning him, he therefore is attacking them out of proportion from the original questions: " Why did you end this movie like you did?" and "What are you going to do to help moviegoers resolve it?" Now, shemp, reread Burton's response and tell me its not exaggerated out of proportion to these questions. For christ sakes, he says he'd rather kill himself than answer a seemingly simple question. If that's not exagerrated behavior.... well, why am I wasting time telling you. YOU wouldn't understand.
Shemp, there is a difference of living WITH the disorder and living it, and it is a fine line. A very fine line. Sort of like the line that defines you from imbecile and idiot. You can't help it, and neither can Burton. That was, and still is, my point. It's in your collective natures. Love live the shemp!

ok, I am an NEW shemp, who has never before postest (just to clear up any confusion)
I agree that you can't judge a directors past work by their current work, and I also agree that Tim's past work was brilliant, at least I think it is.
NBXM is one of my favourite movies...that's one wher he adressed outsiders and all that with delicacy...he adresses that in many of his movies.
Now, I haven't seen POTA, so I can't comment on that.
But you guys are railing on about how Tim sucks for basiacally calling the masses ignorant morone...well, as an outsider and therefore outside observer, I have to say that they ARE. Yes, people individfually may be intelligent and discerning, but the masses are morons...
Hollywood ceeps feeding us crap cause that's what we go see and dump our money into! Sure, Everyone railed on about how much this movie or that movie was stupid, inana, whatever, but they stil grossed.
Tim Burton (at least in the films I'v seem) has put out edgy, weird, and offbeat work, that was agressible different and skewed in perspective. It was often dark, and biting and strange and beautiful. So he, like most pewerful people, has gotten a little ego. So he strikes out againsat the masses that don't appreciate him...isn't that worth it for a different vision? I, personally, woudl rather have him be an egoist than start directing conformist tripe.
Thank You

NEW shemp! As I ride in on my high horse, I believe you have misconstrued my "masses as asses" commentary. If you reread the comment you will see that I am directing this missive as a belief Burton ("he") must think that the public, including his fans, are all morons.
We of dtheatre are not. The public at large is. As Sting so profoundly sings,"Men go crazy in congregations, they only get better one by one." Burton doesn't seem to be responding.
NEW Shemp, you are at a serious disadvantage having not seen POTA so it is going to be difficult for you to be subjective. Being an "outsider" is the only thing you definately got right. Check POTA out if you can without any predilections (if you can at this point) and tell me this is the Burton of yore.
It's not. It looks like Burton and it smells like Burton, but it's become that exact same crap you claim Hollywood keeps shoveling out. And that hurts us, his fans, bad. Very bad. Because now Burton has joined, for now, the ranks of those filmakers that make that exact "tripe" you are complaining about.
PS. Register. It's free and it takes 30 seconds. It will also keep you from getting your tail slapped everytime for being such a crummy speller. (Well, it won't, but we might be less forgiving...)

So...should I spend my money to see POTA, only to have mty faith in Burton lessened and lose my will to live? (over-drama is my milk and corn flakes)
If Burton is going normsey, there's no hope for me....
P.S. Register, register...does that mean that, despite my spelling, you've judged my worthy and want me around? hehe

Evil,
no sweat. I would have responded sooner but either the server to the theatre was down or I was.
Back to Burton. I guess when it comes to POTA--like any movie supposedly---it's there for fun and entertainment. So from that aspect I actually enjoyed POTA for that. Tim Roth is terrific as General Thade, the set design and cinamatography and very cool and Burtonesque.
Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, it is not Burton's best and by far from Burton at his best. And to have him scold the establishment (they deserve it) AND the public (we didn't deserve it)........anyhow I'm tired of it.
I suggested registering because Dtheatre probably gets an advertising boost in its rates if it has more subscribers...more money, cooler the site.......and we like to beat on shemps. Not necessarily in that order.

Ah...ok. So as a slick few eye-candy hours, it's fine. I'd like to see it...not to mention it's another HBC film, and I rather like her. I thought casing Roth was a great idea when I heard about it...
I agree with you about the critisism...i'm all for abusing the system, but his hardcore fans are (usually, hopefully.) diserning people...like I said, hopefully. I don't see his fans turning on him too bad as long as he keeps putting out edgy stuff. I mean, any normsey film that comes from Burton (imo) at least should have a heavy serving of postmodern irony.
heh, I think I'm addicted to postmodern irony. How jaded. I can see him feeling indignant, though, if the general public took that attitude...

Postmodern irony, huh. And you thought The Matrix sucked (i.e. not a good movie.)
O.K. so you're evil.
HBC is fantastic in POTA. (She's better in Fight Club). It's amusing how marky reacts around her character in the movie. He doesn't know whether to fight her or f*ck her. It's great stuff.
