Actually we are all Kung Fu, Martial Arts movie fans and currently Jet Li is the hottest star in the genre, as a result he is in the news a whole lot more than anyone else.

While I really do not like Segals movies (they're all the same), I do have to give him credit. He is one of the highest ranked practitioners of Aikido in North America, and a respected teacher of said subject. He should do some movies with other martial arts actors, and vary his role a bit. It's almost always the same thing. Other than "Crouching Tiger" I haven't seen a good martial arts movie in quite a while. I don't think Rob Van Dam will ever make it in the movies, like he has in Pro Fake Wrestling. Snipes is too slow to get excited about. Griffith never really found his niche. Alexio didn't have the acting ability. Who knows if Mike O'Hearn will ever get serious about acting. Brandon Lee was Ok, but of course he passed away. The guy from American Ninja turned back to regular acting. Other than that, I don't know of too many other American Martial Arts actors, unless you count boxing as a Military Art, which I don't, it's really more of a street art or sport. I think nowadays the names to watch are Li and Chan, but you never know, another big star may be right around the corner.

When Lewis fought for the Kick Boxing championship, and that ringside fight broke out. It was several masters all going after Chuck. He took care of business. I should not have forgot him.

Because he is an ex-wrestler (ECW) who only has a supporting role as "The Claw" in a movie starring Andy On (first time actor, replacing Jet Li) along with ex-pornstar Traci Lords called "Black Mask 2" which is a sequel to a film starring the more interesting Jet Li.
The only interesting part of this movie is that it's directed by Hark Tsui veitnamese director of some classic action films such as "Time and Tide".

I can't dig any actor who runs around kicking ass for no reason while his "gobbler" (that would be the big chunk of fat dangling from his neck), pony tail and leather jacket in a movie with no plot or any intention to have one other then to showcase his skill.
I do respect his Aikido and the MAD TV impression of him.

Kung Fu sucks ass as a style anyway. It looks cool to watch, but its altogether worthless for fighting. f*ck the chinese and their turtle style kung fu...a nice hard straight right (as in punch) needs no style. A punch is a punch, and I'd put money on an American fighter over a chinese fighter any day.

Chinese Wushu is a deadly form of Gung Fu, along with T'ai Chi Chuen. I guess I shouldn't be really suprised that you have no clue though. If you mastered Gung Fu, there's not a man on the face of the planet that can touch you. By the way, Jet Li was already the junior champion of the world when he was 12 years old. I do practice Kung Fu, and I used to take ninjutsu....anyway just wanna let u guys know that,
I love both segal and Li for almost 10 years now.
I could wtach "glimmer man" and fist of legend" 5-6 times a day without getting bored.
THye're the best...and in case u haven't notice..both fighters have their similarity.
Both of them are calm but deadly...the speed of their hands are almost unparalled.
steven segal is stationary but very very offensive,jet li on the other hand is agile and agressive.
And I would give up having sex with the most beautiful woman i the world just to see those 2 act in the same movie...either as duo or nemesis..

Well, what do you guys think of Mark Decascos (Only the Strong, the Crow, Stairway to Heaven)? He can act and he has a lot to show. But in his series, the Crow, they don't show much of his martial arts abilities. In his low budget films, he kicks ass. so what do you people think??

you know in kung fu there is a special branch of art call the Qi Gong. And for the idiot that that says an american punch is better let me tell you one thing...an american punch you have to land your punch to hit your opponent. If a chinese use Qi Gong he can be in a distance of 5 feet and a master of Qi Gong can actually break his chest bones just by flowing his Chi' .

Check out Donnie Yen, a former training partner of Jet Li's. He did the fight choreagraphy for Highlander IV, and he was in the classics, Once Upon a Time in China 2, Iron Monkey, Legend of the Wolfand Heroes Among Heroes.
If anyone could possibly steal Jet Li's thunder, this is the guy that could do it. He is just as interesting to watch as Jet and is more acrobatic. He's a good actor, and has the same intensity and charisma that Jet does. I highly suggest you check the above mentioned movies

I must add that Mark is by far one of the rare few who moves at the speed of asian martial arts stars. He is a fighting champion for real which is how he gain access to hollywood so he isnt just "acting". However, he is more techincal in his moves as compares to Jet Li, who won the wu-shu competitions, a comeptition based on the artistry of graceful moves. Wouldnt it be great if the two can be in the same film, then we can all observe the difference in skillful talents.
Anyone remembered the chinese guy in highlander endgame... he is like Jet Li... same school I think... but!!! more fluent in english.

Tsui Hark is from hong kong no? maybe of vietnamese decent... I think hes chinese by origin. Anyone watched swordsman I & II that he made?? Pt II has Jet Li in it with traditional chinese sword fighting enhances with HK style special effects...(eg. spinning sword) so cool yet till now I havent seen any such duplication by hollywood.

Its pretty ignorant and narrow minded to say that any fighting style is usesless, but its almost as bad to say that one system is better than all others. All fighting styles have strengths and weaknesses, and should be given proper credit and consideration.

Romeo must Die was a better than average movie. Kiss of the Dragon apart from the opening scene with the rabbits was a disater. I hope The One is successful or Jet could be on a one way ticket back to Hong Kong.

I know for a fact that there is no such thing as an invincible martial art. I have fought asians/americans claiming to know this and that. I use taekwondo, which many consider to be one of the weakest forms of martial arts. But I destroyed every one of them and I am still waiting for someone to beat me. I am sure it will happen sooner or later. I welcome it. But you have to realize talking like your form is invincible is extremely disgraceful. I would almost figure that you guys don't study anything.

the real martial art's is all developed depending on what area you are from the world. "greco roman wrestling" were talking develepod in B.C. or how about savate .. developed in brustles over centry. the martial art's were developed around the world. even here " boxing ...bare knuckle .../w a combonation of training with a baonett. durring the american revolutionary war. hth combat is very diverse. not to say there is any who are better than anyone else. "even bruce lee" used boxing because of its simplicity an effectiveness. he even disregarded some of his own martial arts teachings because the wer't fluid enough. did you know the yo-yo is actualy a weapon!, what about brazil foot fighting...an grappling. their some of the best in the world. see our navy seal's you can see the world is very diverse for hand to hand fighting... saying one culture is better than the other is just naive.sorry to burst your bubble

I agree that he is one of the biggest stars around in the martial arts movie business. You have got to give him alot of credit. Looking at it from a wushu perspective he is definitely real. He is now known as one of the fastest martial artists right now. When he came to America they had to change the camera angles and make him slow down to just keep up with him.

yep. I agree. I've had 7 yrs of martial arts experience myself(shotokan, lau-gar, taekwon-do), but I remember something that Bruce Lee once said(paraphrasing): ...if you could teach a [western style] boxer how to block/defend against kicks, he would have the most effective fighting style of all...(!)

You really have to appreciate all kinds of fighting. Because every kind has its advantages and disadvantages. I like Li, Lee, Chan and Segal, for separate reasons. I loved Exit Wounds, and there are some Jet Li movies I now have to check out. So stop arguin' u guys, accept all kinds of fighting.

Yeah, I like the movie Twin Warriors, however, in my country it is released as the Tai Chi Master and thats exactly what its about. Chan Sang Feng the first Tai Chi exponent. Jet LI is fantastic in this movie and nobody else could play a role of the Tai Chi Master other than the Tai Chi Master himself. The fight scenes in this movie are plentiful and absolutely intense. The transition from his hard style to his soft Tai Chi style is very cool. I think he should make more movies like this and go back to making quality Hong Kong movies once in a while.... after all they are still his best work.

I like the American cinema quality that is going into martial arts films now.
Hopefully more martial arts films will be made with American technology so that the quality will continue to improve.
Asian martial artist, with American cinematic techniques is the wave of the future.

The style a fighter uses in no way translates to his character and resolve. Any style can conquer any other style anyday.

Using soft on hard will only hurt the opponent using hard techniques. Your "potruding elbow" is not going to hurt my palm or my bottom fist cos its soft but condition to break hard things (like your head). I've seen a lot of people verbally abusing eachother on this site.. It seems to me none of you are true martial artists, or you would not be boasting about your so-called abilities. Anyone is beatable. No one has all the answers or the keys to being a perfect martial artist. Every style has it's uses and good points, just as they all have their impracticalities and bad points.
What it all boils down to is if you don't want to be on the receiving end of a punch, kick, or whatever, don't be there. Why be stupid enough to put yourself in a situation you don't need to be in?

it is disrespectful to stereotype americans. i am an american of many mixed bloods. (irish, scottish, enlgish, german, polish, russian, swedish, and blackfoot indian) i have had minimal martial arts training. (3 years under renshae cambell) and i have never lost a fight or a sparring match. i have been in many street fights. (i was raised in a very poor neighborhood) and yet have never been beaten. whether fighting an asian or an american, a punch is a punch and kick is a kick. when you can fight 3 men who attack you blind sided, and defeat them in less than 10 sec. then come and pay me a visit. i love to spar. it is a daily practice. because i am american does not mean that i am ignorant. i understand both physics (law) and chi (the unwritten law) when i fight, my arms are as sharpened swords. it does not matter if they hit flesh or iron. the result is always the same. please dont stereotype americans as pitiful fighters, because fate has a way of smiting fools. peace

There are a lot of guys gunning for Segal. I saw an article somewhere that Segal was confronted by a few guys that wanted to try their luck with him. Norris happened to be at the same club and stepped in to mediate and talked the gentlemen that the whole thing was a bad idea.The two men walked away and Norris told Segal that his attitude brought this on. A true story? Maybe!!!! Segal is a dick head anyway!!!!
