The Fast And The Furious was better than "Apes". Perhaps Tim can learn something from it. Actually, I think Vin Diesel would have been a lot better than M.C. Marky Mark.

Who cares about Stars, all we care about is acting. If anyone saw 13 Days they saw the actors who played JFK and RFK were out standing. You can drool over your stars, the rest of us will appreciate fine acting like Mr. Diesel.

No one is downplaying the talent of Mr. Diesel. He is a fine actor. But when you are spending $10,000.00 every 10 minutes with monkey make-up and effects, you need names that are guarenteed to get people into the seats. I think $70 million is proof of that the theory paid off. And if stars don't matter, why not get no names to play all of the monkeys. It is not as though people can see their faces. Names alone can pilot the ship.

People flocked to see "Apes" cause of its very cool theme and F/X. Not cause Marky Mark is a huge draw. Vin Diesel would have been a larger draw, and since he's also a Director, could have helped Tim ready the film without the rush. Vin was in "saving Private Ryan", and also directed several scenes in the flick. Then again Mark Mark used o be a rapper and underwear model and that's cool in a teenage girl kind of way. Marky Mark was nowhere even close to the top choice to play lead role in "Planet of the Apes". Anyway my point is: Vin would have been at least as big a draw as Marky Mark.

I'm sorry Vin Diesel is definitely not as big as a draw a Mark Wahlberg. Not yet at least ... Boiler Room had an ensemble cast...he established himself as a good actor there but hardly what you call a "star"...Mark Walhberg on the other hand has proven himself as a bankable and solid lead actor in the past...Vin doesn't have that record yet...that's a fact...the bottom line is Mark Wahlberg has bigger audience drawing power than Vin...for now

I don't usually reply to these things but first of all, the name is Mark Wahlberg not Marky Mark. He used to be a rapper and modeled underwear. Big deal! Other people were singers and now act. Is that a crime? Why don't you just talk about how great Planet of the Apes was and leave Vin Diesel out of this. I think he's a great actor but Apes is a done deal. Why harp about it now? It should be judged for what it is inplace of what it might have been if someone else played the lead character. For all anyone knows Vin Diesel could have sucked at this part. I can't picture him acting with Apes myself.

Planet of the Apes was awful. If you look on the below thread, you'll see more than a few Dtheatre folks who hated it, perhaps Vin Diesel would have been better than MARKY MARK.
That is the guys name, it's on his rap album, and once a hip hop artist, always a hip hop artist. You can make him pull up his pants and speak with intelligence, but here in Dtheatre and all accross the world he will always be Marky Mark. Just cause some time has gone by doesn't mean that the Funky Bunch is any less funky!

It's a shame to see Final Fantasy knocked off the list, especially since this means that it wont be in theaters much longer and I haven't seen it yet.
It's very interesting to see Shrek back on the top ten list. That movie just will not die.
