It's the only one I don't really want on DVD, but I'd be interested in renting it to hear his take on the dialog. In the meantime: does anyone know how to get the pirate edited version that's been selling in LA, I live in NYC. Thanks.

If you have access to a decent news server, someone has kindly posted Star Wars Episode 1.1: The Phantom Edit to alt.binaries.starwars in mpeg format.
The resolution isn't too great, so it didn't transfer to VCD very well for me, but it's certainly more enjoyable than the original.

What can you say about the mentality of your average citizen in this country when you consider that some of your most popular shows these days are pure crap!Jerry Springer, the reality shows, When Animals Attack, etc...
Lets face it, your average citizen is a dolt. Some of the better movies that have come out in the past are the sleepers that do terribly in the box office. Runaway Train, The Usual Suspects, Richard the Third to name a few. You tell me what the hell box office returns have to do with whether or not a movie is really worth the film it is printed on!

I have found that the amount of money a movie makes is inversely proportionate to the average IQ required to understand it.
The less thought required, the higher the box office returns.
Hence, Hollywood's affinity for blowing sh*t up.
Great!

Finally, a Star Wars film on DVD! Even though I don't have a DVD player yet, being a poor boy, I'll get it anyway. Can always watch it over a friend's house or something. I dunno what people thought was bad about this movie. I just think it was hyped too much 'cause it was the prequel to the original trilogy, and there really is no way to top a 3 movie set with just one movie. That, and people have no sense of humor anymore. Jar Jar was my second favorite character behind Qui-Gon Jinn, and he was actually funny. Funnier than the idiotic "potty humor" found in Scary Movie 1/2, and about EVERY other comedy made in the last 5-10 years. Relax, don't hold expectations, and let yourself actually ENJOY movies. The greatest words I think I've ever heard were: "Don't analyze it, just enjoy it."
Oh, just in case you think I'm some dumb kid, I'm not, 19yr old (depending on your age, that could be considered "kid") in college, and avid Star Wars fan since being taken to see ROTJ when it was out in theatres the first time.
