The American Film Institute has presented a list of the most thrilling movies of all time, in the opinion of directors and film critics. ?The list can be found on their website
It included suspense, action, science fiction and horror movies. The list is interesting and may provide good discussion. ?My only criticism is CBS's presentation of the clips. ?They put almost 2 hours of the most graphic violent and terrifying parts of the movies, one clip after another without stop and editing, from strangulations to the restaurant murder scene in Godfather, to the bloody horrific scenes in Shining. It was way over the line, showing the only most graphic scenes in the 100 movies. ? How about show some discretion, CBS?

I know every name and a lot of Shemps will have they're own opinions about a top 100, but I really can't believe "The Sixth Sense" made the top 100. I could think of 100 movies that blow it away easily. Then again, like any poll, this is just some folks opinions. So who really cares.

Yeah I agree with you Omar, "Lake Placid" was so cool. Hey what about "Deep Blue Sea"? That should be there too!

I watched part of the CBS show, and tuned it out. For movies that I saw, the clips were a reminder; the others, a 30-60 sec clip is like 'wha?' I agree it was a badly concieved show - you can't do 100 films in 2 hr.

I was torn between choosing my favorite films from the list, and selecting the most "heart-pounding" movies. I've chosen the latter. While I loved Pulp Fiction, I think it's the unusual characters and the great dialogue that I remember most. Raging Bull was the best movie of the '80s but it's more of a character study (despite the awesome boxing scenes). My list is comprised of films that either have non-stop thrills or an underlying tension throughout: 1) Raiders of the Lost Ark 2) Jaws 3) Psycho 4) The Exorcist 5) High Noon 6) The Shining 7) Carrie 8) Speed 9) Night of the Hunter 10) Blue Velvet
