(EMPIRE) As Executive Producer of Spider-Man, Marvel Comic's Avi Arad's job is one that many comics and film fans would sell one of their own limbs to have. Speaking this week to Marvel's official site Marvel.Com, Arad has been giving his take on the upcoming Spider-Man movie.
To begin with, he wants to reassure fans of the comics that they'll be happy with the move to the big screen. 'I think the fans are going to see a very loyal depiction of Spider-Man,' Arad says. It's very true to this huge character.'
Having said that, all the stops have clearly been pulled out from a special effects point of view. 'This movie shouldn't have been made until now. There wasn't the technology to make the movie what it is today. It's very complicated to make Spider-Man fly and swing and shoot webs. It's very complicated to make the (Green) Goblin fly through the skies and have the kinds of action scenes it dictates. Spider-Man's powers are such that it's really not well-covered by normal physics.'
As for Tobey Maguire's performance, 'The kid's the next Tom Hanks,' smiles Arad. 'This is going to be a big movie. A very big movie.'
Arad's not the only person looking forward to the prospect of a big screen Spider-Man. Marvel genius Stan Lee has already filmed his cameo for the movie. 'He's very excited," Arad says of Lee. "It's been a long time coming.'
Best of all, the Marvel producer seems happy to confirm that Columbia views Spider-Man as a franchise project. 'The seeds are at the end of this movie...we all know what Spider-Man's mission is and his commitment to his life as being Spider-Man.'

This project sounds like it will work. After the success of X-men, Marvel has shown its characters can work on film.

Who's playing spiderman anyway?
I personally think Arnold Swartzeneger (yes, I know it's spelled wrong, but you get the general idea). After all, he proved he could play a super villain and has mastered the English language, when he played Mr. Freeze.
Who can forget such memorable lines as "Frweeze!", "Chill owt!"?
He was robbed at the Grammys, or whateve it is when actors get recognized for their "hard work" with a small statue, that rarely looks like them.

It was always strange in the comic books, Spiderman was always wiry and thin, while Peter Parker was like this big buffed out steroid monkey.

I'm hoping it will be great, if they just stick to the book they can't go wrong. But regardless of Stan Lee and Marvel, Hollywood always finds a way to mess up a sure thing.

If anyone saw "Ride with the Devil" they know this kid Tobey can act. Then again Leo in the "Basket Ball Diaries" was about as unconvincing as can be. It wasn't due to his acting abilities, it was due to his pathetic basketball skills....it really was sad.

I aplogize for my rudeness. I wish you lots of luck on your film. I know all about Indie films, I'm a strong and avid supporter. I was interested in a project by a group known as 'OUTLAWSANDBANDITS', they were looking for some production money. They also have a hotmail address: outlawsandbandits@hotmail.com
I read an ad in 'BACKSTAGE' and also in 'FILMMAKER', I corresponded with them on thier budget needs, and to no prevail, they ceased communications. Toby Maguire is younger, and skinny, but I think their other choice, Jude Law, would have been better. He's a great actor, doesn't look like he's 12, and has the right look/build. But maybe Toby will do. Elijah Wood did a crappy job in that *other* asteroid movie, forget the name, but he looks like a good Frodo.
