Rodriguez, director of El Mariachi, Desperado and the late Spy Kids, talks third (and fourth?) parts of his Mariachi series with Will Hodgkinson from the UK's Gaurdian.

You know, it's getting very old. I'm talking about people judging movies (or books, or art)and the people who see them.
Here's a thought you rocket scientist. If you don't like it, don't see it! Man. what a freakin concept! Unless it somehow is taking food out of your mouth or keeping you from earning a living then people can see or do anything they want and you don't have jack sh*t to say about it. Not even your opinion matters.
Do you understand that or do I need to use fewer syllables and add pictures.
I agree..

I agree with the above comment, we at DTheatre.com appreciate peoples comments and opinions (which is why we have the comment posting system) but we don't really need to have a flame on every single story.
The first Mariachi (El Mariachi) was made for $7,000 only 600 of those dollars were spent on screen. It's a phenomenal movie for what it was made with. Also keep in mind it was made for the Mexican Home Video market. He earned most of the $7000 it cost to make El Mariachi by subjecting himself to experimental drug studies.
The second one (Desperado) was not so much about the story line either, it was intended to be action packed and entertaining. Which it was. It was also intended to showcase what Robert Rodriguez could do with a real budget film making wise.
A third would be interesting to see where it goes. Will Rodriguez put more effort on the script? Probably not. That's not what he's about. Will it be a good movie? In my opinion, yes! Should there be a fourth? I'll answer that after the third :).

Woah, looks like someone else's favorite book is "Rebel Without A Crew" ;)
Rodriguez is an inspiration to any fledgling filmmaker out there, including myself. "El Mariachi" and "Desperado" were more like experimental films than anything else, I think.
Or maybe I'm an idiot.
In any case Rodriguez is a great filmmaker and an inspiration to all (did I mention something like this, already?)

Quote El Mariachi director, Robert Rodriguez himself: "[El Mariachi] was total cheese."
The intention of these movies was not to ask mind-bending questions, but to have fun. Did you even read the article linked to in this story?
What the hell has happened to the kinds of movies that are just for fun? Or perhaps, I shouldn't be asking what happened to the movies-they've always been there. But perhaps I should be asking what ever happened to the viewer who decided to let loose and have fun at the movies? That's what they're there for! You are seeing movies for all the wrong reasons. Have fun! Lighten up! Or, hell, keep that stick up your @$$, I don't care.

I'm glad everyone admires the dedication and determination of Mr. Rodriquez, however, even he acknowledged the "cheese" factor of his movies.
I never said people who watch his movies are idiots, I simply wondered why people watch his idiotic movies.
I understand the desire for fun, but action without substance is "cheese." I would rather wait ten years and watch it at midnight on a local channel when I'm piss drunk. I think I could bear to watch that tripe you call cinema in an inebriated condition.
Also, I have a firm grip on polysyllabic words but I do enjoy pictures.

Leave the guy alone already. I'm talking about Fred hater. I too am a 'Rebel without a Crew' fan and an aspiring filmmaker. I agree films are entertainment and we should have fun. But if he doesn't like the film, he doesn't like the film. I love cheese, but I also like to see other kinds of films. If we didn't have differing opinions, we wouldn't have a film industry. That's all. I also hope that Rodriguez does something cool with a 3rd installment. Hey, you guys see 'Bedhead' at the end of 'El Mariachi'? Now that's funny. Peace and free speech.

Robert Rodriguez is a great director because he is a self made director. The movie Mariachi was excellent for its time...and the way in which it was made is amazing..
that said forums area place where people can discuss things and post their opinions..for hopefully better revelations of topics therein.
DONT flame and dont tell someone else their opinion is stupid..if its stupid prove it dont just use unproven uninteresting baseless chatter...speak..explain...enlighten...
Robert Ridriguez may not be spielberg...but he is an inspiration to beginning directors as myself. if you cant see that then you are or should not be worried about the business....just watch movies for entertainment and move on...
