J-Lo Won't Play Mexican Artist in Film

(AP) Jennifer Lopez, who was reported star as Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo in an upcoming film has scrapped those plans for another project instead.

Instead, she is in talks to work with Top Gun director, Tony Scott, in an adaptation of the novel, Taking Lives by Michael Pyne. ?Lopez will play the role of an FBI profiler looking for a murderer. ?She will reportedly make $10 million.

A Frida Kahlo biopic, with Salma Hayek playing the painter and Edward Norton, Geoffrey Rush and Ashley Judd co-starring, is still in the works.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the former project would have been a better route, at least for originality's sake. ?I mean how many more FBIPoliceCIASerialKillerMurderer stories do we have to produce?

Salma Hayek seems to be a good replacement though (in the limited knowledge I have of the film).

As a Mexican-American and an artist at heart I am very glad to see that that no-talent, overrated, big booty excuse for an "artist" will not be playing Kahlo who was an artistic genius and visionary.  To have J-Ho to play her would have been a real disgrace.  Anyways, her acting is terrible, her music a waste of time and her looks are WAY overrated.  Just cuz she has a wide-load, XXL booty does not mean squat!  Damn those Puerto Ricans like her and Ricky!  Go back and leave me alone you no-talent arses!

I'm glad to see another comadre o compadre who feels the same way I do on some things.Listen I'm also a Mexican American Artist,  and like you I'm glad to be seing Salma playing Frida Kahlo on the big screen. One issue I can't agree with is your bigotry against other latin American races.  Unfortunately it took producers and business man to realize the large latin Market before they would give us a chance to share our artistic talent with the rest of the world.  If it means having j_lo and other lantin americans sell themselves out so that other pure and solid talent can finally surface this homogeneous world, then you should be greatful. You are an artist and you know that this is something painful to do as an artist.  Thanks to these artist that more doors are bieng opened for the rest of us. Enough people put us down so why feed   the fire. Oh one more thing, it take more than a big butt to be able to sing and act, it takes dedication, and passion for what you do. We are not born knowing everything, we learn as go along, sometimes we will make the right choices and sometimes we won't. One thing i know for sure is that no one has the right to put someone elses hard work and efforts down.

I'm Mexican American and I'm so happy that Selma was chosen to play the part of Frida Kahlo instead of J Lo.
nothing against MS Lopez. Ms Kahlo was part German and Mexican and I don't see how Ms. Lopez could have carried that role. plus Selma looked so much like Kahlo.
I feel stongly that a Mexican should play that role especially since there are a lot of talented Mexican actors and actresses out there. When Mexican roles goes mostly to Puerto Ricans or other Latin Americans; It's no surprise that when a Mexican American auditions for a role the Director dosen't know what to make of it! He normally wants to have the Mexican brown face because he doesn't feel that the Mexican actor looks Mexican enough! That's
because Hollywood thinks we all look Puerto Rican. and can't figure out that Mexicans
come in different shades
of color from dark to very fair.
  Ms J Lo was offered a part in the Frida Kahlo movie, but not the lead it's too bad that she felt she should be the star or nothing. Because I would have loved to see her in it, but not as the principle actress.
  I think our biggest problem is that too many Latin roles go out to anglos. We Latin's should be sticking together and not fighting among ourselves. We should send out a message to Hollywood that we want to see Latino's play Latino's. When Hollywood decides that Maddona,Glenn Close, Winnona Ryde,Angelica Houston,Catherine Zeta Jones should play the roles of Latinas. We have to remind Hollywood that we buy more box office tickets than any other nationality. And we are capable of boycotting the box office.

I am mexican and I think every race in the world has its beauty. It doesn't matter if you are Puerto Rican or Mexican. Both countries have beautiful people, you can see that from Salma Hayek to Denise Quinones. But, with the 'ghetto' reputation J-Lo has, it is not good for her to represent real latin talent. Like the great artist Frida Kahlo. I personally am glad she didn't do that movie. But come on latinas, we need to get closer and compliment each other, not fight like animals. My best friend is Puerto Rican and we get along great. Lets respect each other's cultures and get stronger!

Where for starters, that makes her seem real triflen because she was willing to play Selena when she didnt have anything, But since she has gotten famous she's to good. I think not. I really don't see the diffirence in mexicans and Puerto Ricans anyway

Not that this is a bad thing, but I lived in New York and I have seen plenty of Puerto Ricans and sometimes it is hard to distinguish them from there ancestry which is mostly black.  That is not a bad thing - it just means that they are completely different from Mexicans and hence Jennifer Lopez who is not at all Indian (which most Mexicans are) should not have played a Mexican.  That said, she's not a bad actress and neither is Selma.  Selma however is a Mexican born Lebanese so she should not have played the part either.  And while I'm on a role Antonio Banderas though I have incredible respect for him should have given up some of the choice Mexican roles he had been given to real Mexicans or Mexican-Americans.  And one final note, although I don't think that all "hispanics" (and that's an iffy term at best) should not be lumped together under the same umbrella, we should still learn to get along and celebrate and admire our differences not use it to tear us apart.  What we need is  unity as non-Europeans living in a white man's world, not disunity.

I was born in Panama, and somehow of course I'm 17 years old and I've been living the last few years of my life here, in America. I don't have much pride w/ the current situation of war and politics, but that's of no major concern to me.

The point is, I'm really tired of all this country pride bullshit that I see every day. I am proud of where I come from, but I find no reason to advertise that to everyone.

And for example, college scholarships aimed towards certain races is pretty dumb as well. What the fuck, just because I'm a latino shouldn't mean that I deserve to go to college cheaper than someone who was born here.

But for everyone else, look at this, The "WHITE" race didn't pop out of nowhere. They all came from different places, italians, finnish, swedish, english, russian, or whatever. They're not all the same, NONE of us are the same.

We are just people, what is the big fucking deal?

It's great to be proud of where you came from, but there's a difference between being proud and being an asshole. If it matters, I'm puerto rican, and I love who I am with all my heart. To all of you who claim to be better than everyone else, you are an EMBARRASSMENT to the latino race. You are only proving how ignorant you are.

It's so easy to look at the all the bad stereotypes, and to judge everyone else that way, but where is it getting you?

Ok, J-Lo may have her head shoved up her ass, along with other things, but don't reflect it onto the race. WE ALL KNOW IT'S NOT TRUE.
I am very close with all different people, my roommate is from Barbados, some of my friends are from Mexico and Ecuador. I have friends from Switzerland, Germany, England, and Korea. My BEST FRIEND is from waaay out west in Wyoming. I love them all for being so different and for teaching me so much about their culture, and for appreciating my differences as well.


WAKE UP PEOPLE! There's enough hate in this world. Don't add to it by being stubborn and pompous.

haha.. i am a puerto rican--- from the actual island. so that you know, most people here don't consider j.lo. to be puerto rican. she has puerto rican descendence, but she is not puerto rican. she is a new yorikan because she was born in the states. plus, before she became really famous, she said that she did not identify herself with the puerto rican race several times. i WOULD NOT like to see her represent a character as important and dignified as frida khalo. j.lo. is a wannabe puerto rican that ruins and stains my reputation.
