Russell Crowe to be the next 007?

As rumours regarding the casting for the forthcoming James Bond keep flying in everyone's direction, it seems that the Aussie actor Russell Crowe is now tipped to take over the lead role from Pierce Brosnan when he stops playing 007 after the next movie.

According to news from UK's The Evening Standard, producers believe that Crowe, with an Oscar under his belt, would be perfect for the role. And that, is their opinion. The paper also reports that Brosnan, who has starred in the last three Bond movies, is apparently making too many demands and that producers are keen to replace him.

And according to news from UK's Guardian, Royal Ballet star Darcey Bussell has confirmed that she has signed up to appear in the next film, known only as Bond 20, after she gives birth to her first child in July. The 31-year-old dancer said: "I adore James Bond films, with Sean Connery being my favourite Bond of all time. But I am really looking forward to working with Pierce, who I met a few times at the Opera House before I auditioned with him." Although the role that Bussell will take is unclear, choreographer Ashley Page is designing special ballet routines for the movie.

John Cleese and Dame Judi Dench are the only two other members of the cast who have been confirmed so far.

I like Russell Crowe, but he's totally got the wrong accent.

I think that Jimmy Bond should never be played by an Aussie!

I don't think Crowe is Suave enough.. a little to rough on the outside to be a gentleman/spy etc..

I'd rather they put Sean Connery back on there (bad joke, sorry!)

Good Christ, why don't they just put Canoe Reeves in as Bond with a fake accent.  Why not a digitalized Christopher Reeves?  James Bond has to be played by a Reeves, after all the Matrix and Superman ROCK!!!!!
For that matter why don't they have Joel Schumacher direct, maybe James Bond's suit can have nipples on it.

Russell Crowe is nice, but not a Bond-type of guy.  From what I understand Brosnan is up for at least 4 more Bond films.  What I'd like to see is Sean Connery in one of those films, as say, James Bond's uncle or grandfather (with a great libito to boot).

He already did that in "Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade", it wouldn't be cool twice. Perhaps Roger Moore as his perverted Uncle "Chester", or Timmothy Dalton as his washed up Step Father "Reginald", or that other guy.

I'd like to see Carmen Elektra as the newest Bond Girl, but nowadays they prefer to use skeletons like Whitney Houston and such.

Anyway I got no problem with Brosnan, he was much better though, in the "Thomas Crown Affair" remake from a few years ago.

Crowe is great but not a great bond.  I am anxious to see what Hugh Jackman is capable of he might actually turn out to be a good actor.  The bond series definitely needs some revamping.  Brosnan is excellent but unhappy with the franchise.  Perhaps Mike Myers... oh my bad.

crowe can't act his way out of a paper bag...he's just a better looking and slightly more articulate Keanu Reeves...
I'd rather they take the chance with Robbie Williams....
Hugh Jackman was an interesting idea...little short to be bond though..

Since when has accent mattered anyway? It looks like there is a shortage of English actors out there to fill the role based on all the suggestions for US actors made here. I guess they just couldn't find an English actress for Lara Croft or Bridget Jones' Diary huh? Aussies and Kiwis can do a lot better impersonation of an English accent since its more closely derived from English that the American accent. Shall I bring up Kevin Costner as Robin Hood as an example? There are plenty of English actors of high caliber out there, what's wrong with them?

Did Crowe's impersonation of an American accent in "The Insider" suck? Didn't see it myself but was wondering....

This page is better than the last bond film. They just need to hire all of us to do the dialect. They wouldn't even notice the accents

Why not take me instead of this Crowe, hehehe. does'nt look like a spy he is more like a Gladiator. In my Opinion, i have watch James Bond way back when i was kid, I guess this would be the first time that I might not watch this movie anymore. and rather take Tom Cruise to be next James Bond.

I think Crowe does NOT have the elegance and sharpness that it takes to be Bond.

And so what if he won an oscar; if the man ever plays the role in a Bond movie, the only thing that will happen is that he will make a total disaster of the Bond series and will leave the expectators with a bad taste in their mouths.I really like Pierce Brosnan?s acting in the 007 series; there is something about that guy that goes with the Bond part, he has the class, and the style that it takes... something Crowe doesn?t have. So in my opinion I go for someone else, leave the Aussie in a medieval battle field or saving some guy inside a South American jungle. There are SO many talented (not to mention British)actors that can do the part  as good as Pierce and the preceding Bonds.

Huh?? you must be kidding me.....

Crowe...!!?? don?t make me laugh!!, I?ve got a simple thing to say...

"He WILL SPOIL the Bond series!!"

(I hope some of those producers read these comments, after all We are the ones going to see the movie and as I?ve been reading,  people are not liking the idea of Crowe taking the 007 part)

His accent and ALL of him don?t go with the part...

Hey, why don?t you just give the part to Arnold Schwarzenegger or give Bond super powers???

yeah! KILL 007 what a top idea, he would, of course have to spend the full length of the film being sadisticaly tortured by the bad guy.

I think that russell crowe would make a awesome james bond. Think about it the last couple movies, you didnt go to see 007 you went to see tits and ass.  truth be told i don't even remember that much about strory lines of the last one, golden eye was pretty good i must admit but he sure went down hill from there. the british have great history of kickin ass, i think its time for some one to bring that back to bond, far as accent is concerned YOUR REACHING!!!! the rest is acting crowe is caplable of that in my opinion.

People, People, People.
Russell Crowe would be the perfect Bond. He has managed to portray the Bond character in his personal life without even thinking. Take being a womaniser for instance. All the past James Bond actors have all got their ends wet in the film. Crowes just getting a feel for the part by rooting Meg Ryan and Danielle Spencer for practice.
It all makes sense now.
