According to a report from Variety, Duke Nukem, the bad-ass computer game hero famously known for saving earth's women from evil aliens, may soon be transported from the computer screen to the big screen.
Dimension has acquired "Duke Nukem: The Movie," a project based on the game franchise that's already generated nearly $1 billion, from multimedia giant Threshold Entertainment.
For those who don't know what the game's about, "Duke Nukem" is first person shooter game that is much alike "Quake" and "Doom". And it's no big surprise that it has come under fire from Washington for its high quotient of blood, sex and gore. But Dimension plans to develop the movie so it meets the requirements of a PG-13 rating.
The story is set deep in space, and the plot will center on Duke's efforts to defend the planet from an extraterrestrial ship on a collision course with Earth.
Threshold Entertainment CEO Larry Kasanoff, co-founder and former prexy of James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment, will be producing the film. And also as producer of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, a $4 billion brand, Kasanoff helped lay the foundations for Hollywood's interest in the gaming industry.
Dimension director of production and development Ken Park and Threshold acquisitions and development veep Leon Fan brought "Duke Nukem: The Movie" into Dimension.
Park and Dimension production co-heads Andrew Rona and Brad Weston will oversee the project.

Well, the fact that it is gonna be PG-13 already tells you that censorship just happened.

OK folks, you gotta think about this...The movie has pure merit, it will kick alot of tail, however, if indeed this movie will be rated PG-13, there will be a severe loss of fan-fare. And it will be much deserved.

A Duke Nukem movie? Think about this people? Do any of you know adults (+18) that play this game much? I don't. This movie has to be PG-13. If not, no one would see it.

If the kids are old enough to play the game, chances are that they have either parents who will allow them to go, or are resourceful enough in the first place to get into the movie anyways. Duke is a Bad Ass who made a name for himself on catch phrases like "shake it baby" you cant really say that or do what he does to a preteen.

For anybody who cares, the original Duke Nukem was not a DOOM clone. There was no blood and gore.
It was a third person, guide him through traps and mazes, shoot-em-up. You shot things like robots, fish, critters pepsi cans (which, BTW, they promised would make the transition to the First Person version and didn't) and an end-boss.

Yeah, it ran on a piece of crap 286 with 4MB of RAM and a 520MB hard drive because the game itself was only 2MB (only 1MB when you compressed it with PKZIP and placed it on a 5 1/4 floppy disk), and had a whopping 16 colors!! Aint life grand!?!?!
