(NY Post) Fans of the Star Trek series have gotten their hands on some of the details of the new series, heading to UPN next fall.
The new show is to be set in the 22nd century, before the original series, according to trektoday.com.
It takes place "at a time when starship travel was a relatively new endeavor . . . and the universe really was still filled with strange new worlds, new life, and new civilizations."
Like other "Star Trek" projects in development, details about the new show have been shrouded in secrecy and the studio is steadfastly refusing to comment.
Here's some of the details according to the site:
* Captain Jackson Archer, a middle-aged, "physical" guy with a "bold personality" who's a "bit of a renegade."
* Subcommander T'Pau, a female Vulcan who is "austere yet sensual." She becomes a "loyal and trusted" crew member.
* Doctor Phlox, an alien medical officer who practices a bizarre brand of new age "Intergalactic medicine" with an "eccentric sense of humor."
* Lieutenant Commander Malcolm Reed, a British chief engineer who is described as "spit and polish and by-the-book," as well as "soft-spoken, shy and awkward around women."
Producers are also including an African-American helmsman, a Japanese communications expert and a Southerner "who's not familiar with new civilizations."
I've only had a passing interest in Star Trek over the years, so I might not be a good gauge to go by, but I don't know if this one will take off. ?Sure, you'll get your fan base of true Trekkies, but I don't know if it will capture many new fans. ?Who knows. ?Maybe this will be the show that gets people watchin UPN. ?
The show is supposedly going to fill the time slot that Voyager will abandon as its season and seris comes to an end.

Sounds like all the other Star Treks. Why don't they do a "Tuskegee Starmen" with a bunch of hip hop dudes that talk jive starring Chris Rock or Chris Chappell.
In this plot aliens don't like people of African descent because they resemble Klingons and most alien species are racially homogenous, so a futuristic sort of segregation occurs.
The "Tuskegee Starmen" get a ship that allows them to prove their worth. They pick up some Asians, Latinos, Hip Caucasians and renegade Aliens along the way and become a rainbow coalition of sorts and prove to the racially homogenous Vulcans, etc. that diversity rocks.

wait, wait i thought of something better. How about a bunch of Shaolin Monks who study animal styles of Kung Fu decide to venture into space and find extraterrestrial creatures and create new forms of ?"space animal kung fu."
Of course they would kick all kinds of ass in the process.
Then throw in a ?rescued pot smoking rastafarian chef, a sexy space stewardess and a druken irish starship captain and you have a grammy winner.
That almost as cool as my Scooby Doo concept. (See Scooby Shots)
Ha-Yah!!

Dammit studio executives *REALLY* should make stories like that! Maybe you should start submitting your story ideas to the "Man."

Sounds like you're a bit weary of every month being "black history " month .Im supposing that following the census that found Hispanics on an equal population footing with blacks we'll be blessed with a decade of "Hispanic history" months .I look forward to any change in the status quo.
LOL!

I see, we get Captain John Big-Bootay, Commander John Anderson, etc. and they all "shuck and jive where no one has boogied before."
Then we make Nia Peeples the communications officer and we call it "Sooooouul Trek."
People, these reports are SO bogus. T'Pau? The craggy old b*tch that officiated at Spock's wedding? Please!
Next you'll be telling me that we're making friends with the Alien and Predator species to maintain political correctness.
How about a Goth navigator (endlessly depressed, etc.) who keeps driving the ship into black holes?

According to the industry magazine Broadcsating & Cable the new series will be called Star Trek: Enterprise; so I do not understand how this could be a series about the time before the original series as that would be BEFORE anything called Enterprise. So. my guess is that this story "reported" from the NY Post is either misinformed or false. It makes no sense.

As long as T'Pau wears a skin tight body suit, I'm in.
Almost sounds too ridulous to NOT be true. Question is, will they make the sets and effects cheesier than TOS? Will the characters be EXTRA stereotypical? Will the aliens be lamer than half white/half black dude?? "No, his left side is beige and his right side is off-beige."

The NCC-1701 was not necessarily the first Enterprise, it was merely the first Enterprise with the NCC-1701 registry, which was followed by A, B, etc. It is quite possible that there was a previous Enterprise that was not Constitution-class, and definitely did not have the NCC-1701 registry. On the Original Series, there was a Constitution-class ship called "Defiant." It had a different registry than the experimental Defiant of DS9.
In fact, NASA has a shuttle called "Enterprise." In Star Trek: TMP, there was a gallery that showed "all the ships named Enterprise."
So what would be wrong with having a pre-TOS ship with that name?

You guys are a bunch of dopes. You huys don't understand the meaning of Star Trek. I think they should have it farther into the future. not going back in time. Where ther eis total peace and then this new race comes and it is every race for themselves. I think you all should shut up and lean the meaning of Star Trek before you make your dope comments.

Startrek first contact was the highest grossing star trek film to date I
think its only logical that Paramount will want to capitalize on that
success. I think it will be interesting to see the world soon after
Cochran's first warp flight. It will be more of a rough and tumble universe
in where the humans and Vulcan's try to establish some ethics and honesty
into the their part of space , the alpha quadrant. Sounds like we will see
the founding of the federation and discover what makes the start trek world
so special. The new series may start another resurgence of trek, if done
right of course.

I am hoping that this is all totally bogus. If you read about the character descriptions for this "new" startrek, they all parallel characters from TOS. Besides all this, we already know where this series is going to lead to, because it takes place before all the others and we know the Federation is going to work out and the prime directive, yadayada yada. Maybe this is all a cover for the real show, I read somewhere else that the enemy was going to be from the 29th century and trying to stop the federation from being formed like in first contact. It also seems funny that the captain is supposed to be the quantum leap guy. HHRRRMM... the time ships we saw in voyager were from the 29th century and the quantum leap guy could be an obscure reference to time travel. Maybe this whole thing is just the first episode of a series about the time ship enterprise? What do you think? Possible or just one last grasp for a good show?
