Hannibal Rakes in at The Box Office

The three day presidents day weekend total of $35.5 million was a 49% falloff from the previous opening weekend for "Hannibal", but it was expected from executives since the genre is known for quick declines in ticket sales. ?But the huge opening weekend sales combined with Presidents day weekend sales created an impressive total. ?"Hannibal" is a co-production between MGM and Universal. ?MGM is handling distribution in the US, and Universal will handle all foreign distibution.

Total estimated grosses this Presidents Day weekend, at $147 million, were 9% ahead of last year.

I loved this film ... I've read so many horrible reviews on this film claiming that it's a teen slasher flick, and that Dr. Lecter is a shadow of his former self, but I found the film thrilling.  They claim that Hannibal kills victims at random like it's a SCREAM movie?! ... I loved the aspect that he's been trying to live a quiet life, but is forced into defending his ill-got freedom when he's hunted from all angles by corrupt police, greedy investigaters, and revenging ... well ... mangled millionairs. (I had trouble believing that was Gary Oldman)

I haven't read the book yet, but most films are a slight let-down to the book , and I've heard this is too ... I know the differences in the film's and the novel's endings ... and I felt the ending of the film worked amazing (it made my Valentine's Day)

Anyone seen "Manhunter" ... based on Harris' "Red Dragon"??  That film was made maybe 4 years before "Silence Of The Lambs" and I hear that many feel it's superior to 'Silence' ... I'm thinking of grabbing the DVD that just came out this month ... let me know if I should?!

Hmmm... maybe I should check out that DVD too. I also enjoyed Hannibal and I don't necessarily agree with the bad reviews it was getting. I thought it was entertaining and worth seeing too.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but there was a book written prior to Silence. It was made into a pretty good movie, had a slick style to it and the climax scene is accompanied by Inna Gadda Vida. I believe the producer was the same guy who made Miami Vice. Called The Manhunter. The book was called The Red Dragon. Enjoyed it. Best regards from ....whomever I guess......

man hunter is pretty good.  not many people know silence was a sequal.

Manhunter was an excellent movie.  Don't expect it to be about hannibal though.  I've read that the third installment of Silence, will be based on the red dragon book as well. A prequel. I don't think that Manhunter is truly being considered as part of the Silence group.

i disagree, although i thought Hannibal was very entertaining, i don't think it compares with the first one. Hannibal got too messy for me.

Re:" Hannibal "
As I am not really a fan of horror flicks of any kind , I had no intention of seeing or reading "Hannibal "
HOWEVER ..... As I think Anthony Hopkins is a hottie I started to read " Hannibal ".The book is entralling so far and I find myself rooting for Dr. Lecter !This gives me the courage to perhaps see the movie . I am beginning to get the feeling H. and Starling get together at the end . So - message is - read the book too - it's fun to see how they revamp things for our consumption. Crackerdst
