Rowan Atkinson, best known for his role as the classic hilariously dimwitted Mr. Bean, is currently in talks to play the lead villain in the upcoming live-action movie version of Scooby-Doo, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Raja Gosnell will direct the film, which is scheduled to begin shooting Feb. 13 in Australia. James Gunn and John August wrote the script.
Atkinson would join a cast that includes real-life couple Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar as Fred and Daphne, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and Linda Cardellini as Velma. I still think that Mike Meyers would have been the more fitting role for Shaggy though. And as for Atkinson's character, he will be called Mondavarious.

I'll have to agree with you there.. I was way impressed and it was a very funny sketch. I don't think that Freddie boy here will be any good.

yeah, but aren't they all supposed to be around the same age? Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar are much younger looking than Rob Lowe or especially, Mike Meyers. Sure, Robe Lowe would have made a great Shaggy, but you've got to have a dynamic bunch(not that this one's that much better).

Rowan Atkinson reached stardom with Mr Bean, he achieved granduer with The Blackadder. But now, it seems he is in a creative slump. Perhaps a comic villain is just the role for him. After all, he has something all cartoon characters have - no bones. Good for him.

I agree that Rob Lowe would make a PERFECT Shaggy. The casting director obviuosly didn't spend much time searching for a great actor that fit the part, because Rob Lowe was the PERFECT Shaggy. -Jessi in CO.
