Well the Super Bowl has come and gone, and the new Survivor is here to take America by storm. America might once again fall victim to the reality TV crack.
First, the Super Bowl. Was it a disapointment or what? Now I'm not the biggest football fan, but I can say that I like it a lot more than most of your humble correspondents on this site. I just thought it was rather boring watching a defensive battle between two teams I care nothing about. Even the commercials were sub par than that of commericals of Super Bowls past.
Next up: Survivor II: The Australian Outback. What a great place to throw 16 people in. It's a hostile enviornment, but not unbearable. And if Crocodile Hunter hasn't quenched your thirst for the aussie world, then this just might.
I won't go into the specifics of all the cast members, but it does seem that they got a few more "beautiful people" on the show this time around. It also seems like the people in both tribes are at their teammates throats already. Geez! It's only been 3 days! By the fifth show, someone's not going to be able to take it anymore and is going to start clubbing people. That will be the real survivor.
The reject: Deb. The lady had it coming to her. All that correctional facilty work she does back in the States didn't help her out when she had to interact with others. In a situation like that, it's best not to be stubborn and independent. If you're not going to be a team player at the beginning, then you're going to get axed. End of story.
So what did all of you guys think? For the record, I watched only the last show of the last Survivor, and maybe 15 minutes of 2 or 3 other shows throughout the season. It's just me, but I don't think I'm going to be glued to the TV set on Tuesday nights. After all, there's always an expanded Friends and SNL on NBC.

I didn't watch the first Survivor and have no plans to watch the second. If I want to see people undercutting each other all I have to do is watch the evening news. At least that is real, not for entertainment.

I have to take issue with this new SURVIVORism that has everyone simply fixed on the lives of people that mean nothing to them. I don't mind entertainment - in fact I love it - but it seems to me that we don't take as much interest in the lives of our friends and families as we do in these people. Snap out of it folks, there are real people all around you whose abject humiliation you can exploit first hand.
