Lori McCreary, Morgan Freeman's producer and business partner as well, told the David Fincher.cjb.net fan Web site during an interview, that Fincher (best known for directing Fight Club, Alien 3, Seven) will direct the feature-film version of Arthur C. Clarke's science fiction novel Rendezvous with Rama. The movie itself will be computer-animated, and McCreary and Freeman's Revelations Entertainment production company will be producing it with a budget of more than $100 million.
Fincher has worked with Freeman previously worked on Seven. "Fincher has the unique ability to create new worlds, which we really need for Rama," McCreary said. French illustrator Moebius will provide production design for the film, she added.

I'm just excited that Moebius will have something to do with it.

This was a cool story. It will be interesting to see if a movie can live up to it.

I'm not exactly sure if the whole film will be wholly computer animated. From the various press releases and news briefs, there's only the very light mention of computer animation, but my thoughts on it would be that there would still be actual acting and filming involved, just with a nifty CG environment, kinda like how most of the environments in Star Wars Episode I was done with CG.

My only question is whether the film makers are going to make a movie of the first book and then make later installments or if they are going to cram as much of the four books as they can into one movie?

Oh my God, it will be awesome (if for no other reason) just because Fincher is directing.

I agree one hundred percent with you on that subject. If they want a good movie they'd better make it in separate installments. It'll be better that way.
