The series itself is about a normal teenage boy who also happens to be the long-lost prince of the planet Jurai, and has drawn quite a lot of fans. The cable outlet said Tenchi Muyo! has earned good ratings.
More than half a million video versions of the anime have sold in the United States, which also is a large figure for an anime release. The Tenchi stories share essentially the same plot: An extraterrestrial villain threatens Earth, and Tenchi invariably saves the day, using his powers as a Jurai prince. The lead character also copes with six women from outer space who have crushes on him.
In the American version, the four principal parts are played by Matt K. Miller (Tenchi), Petrea Burchard (Ryoko), Jennifer Darling (Ayeka) and Sherry Lynn (Sasami). "There's such a dichotomy in Tenchi," said Miller. "He's supposed to be this shy shrine-keeper's assistant, yet he goes out battling for Jurai--and has to deal with the attention of all the female characters." Tenchi airs Mondays through Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. on the Cartoon Network.

Uhh? No shit it is edited for America. Damn near every single anime that airs on American TV is edited. It is no surprise that there are added bathing suits in the bathroom scenes. They look totally laid-in.

Yeah, they did the same thing when that fucking monkey Patrick Ewing was on a episode of the Simpsons. He was supposed to be walking around like a caveman, but the editors straightend up his spine and smoothed out his cheek bones. How fucking brutal is that.

In Japan, attitudes concerning nudity are very different than they are here. Even the transformation sequences in Sailor Moon are edited, as the scouts appear naked in the original Japanese. Where small children might be watching, TV censors take no chances about offending parents. They should sell uncensored versions on VHS and DVD for adults only, however.

Ok, can everybody clean up their language?? Kids DO read this stuff. Besides, it makes you guys sound stupid. Not to be mean or anything, of course. And, I don't want to hear, well don't read it, please.
Aside from that, I have noticed that they seem to only edit the tame animes. There is so much violence and junk on Outlaw Star it is sickening, and Dragonball Z is no better. So, it stands to reason, that if they can edit Tenchi and Sailor Moon, they can just edit the rest, too. Or, in my opinion, don't edit Tenchi or Sailor Moon at all, because those two are, as compared to Outlaw Star and Dragonball Z(To name a few really violent Anime), really not at all violent.

What your children see is up to YOU! The parents! Sheesh....are you folks so lame that you want the government to do EVERYTHING for you? If you don't want to monitor what your kids watch, you shouldn't have become parents...maybe too much work huh? I have 3 and I monitored very closely what they saw and heard when they were small. I take my job as a father seriously. Censorship is NOT the way to handle this. Take some responsibility in the lives of your kids and leave the choices up to the individual.

Well every thing is not edited. In the last episode of Tenchi Universe, Ryoko is in a picture that Ugi shows, with her middle finger up.

When you get right down to it, this government is run by a bunch of fundamentalist overconservative congressmen and a bunch of vocal whiney parents who want to "protect their children." Dammit i remember back when I was younger if I would have seen a pair of breasts on tv or the finger I'd say cool as hell, not uggghhh keep away.

Conservative congressmen are not editing anime, despite what you want to believe. Anime is on TV to make money, and no matter how much I hate it, edited anime makes more money than unedited.
