Warning: Possible plot spoilers ahead.
My main problem with this film is it's one of those murphy's law to extreme type of films.?Everything goes wrong, and yet for everything that goes wrong there is a solution which in most cases make no sense.?Could you really solder a radio together out of a pci modem card that's been sitting on the surface of mars for 50 years?
And of course out of the whole surface of the planet everything they need is within walking distance.?I was a little disapointed at the small role that the Chantilas character played by Terence Stamp was given.?He seemed to be an interesting character, but not much was done with him.? Once you get around some of the cheesy plot cliches, and technical errors like "stand him up" when they are in zero gravity, Red Planet is an entertaining movie.?
Conclusion: 7.0/10.0. It's worth seeing if you are at all a sci-fi fan, or if your just looking for a fun film with some action.? It has good special effects, some interesting plot twists and it has Carrie-Anne Moss.

I just have to say that this movie was highly entertaining. If they had went for an R rating and added another hour it would have been excellent. However, they WERE NOT in zero gravity when they said "stand him up." They had just crashed on Mars, and the guy was laying in the dirt. Watch it next time:)

The "stand him up" comment I was refering to was the computer saying to stand up val kilmers character after he was brought back onto the ship and revived. I agree it was very entertaining though.

It had nothing to do with zero gravity, it had to do with blood flow. heart attack victims are advised to sit up or stand. laying down could slow the flow of blood to the heart and increase the chance of death. bye, bye. :) b

I realized that that is standard procedure here on earth, but when you are in zero G, There is no "standing up" blood flow is not affected by direction in zero G. It wouldn't have made any difference to stand him up because they were floating in zero G. Maybe I'm wrong, but if anyone has a scientific reason to dispute me I'll listen. :)
