Zack De La Rocha Quits Rage Against The Machine

In shocking news (at least to me), Zack De La Rocha has decided to bow out of the Rage Against The Machine project, citing artistic & political differences in the band.

According to him, the band has strayed down different paths musically and politically, and he thought it was time to go. Tom Morello, RATM's guitar whiz, says that the band has no hard feelings, and that at least for now, he, bassist, Tim Commerford, and drummer, Brad Wilk are staying together. Their music label, Epic, has put all RATM projects on hold, for obvious reasons. Aside from this, RATM is releasing the studio covers album in December that they have been working on.

Not that RATM is all about Zack De La Rocha, but I can't see them being able to go on without him. The lead singer is always the focal point of a band, regardless of talent of the other players. Bringing in someone else to fill De La Rocha's shoes will likely fail. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens...

I know what you mean. Especially with that guy's somewhat unique vocal style and their wide recognition, I don't think they could try to be the same band and be welcomed by their audience at the same time. The other three guys are way talented, so I'm sure they'll be doing something.

It really sucks that zack quit but the only thing that has me totally obsessed over rage is Tom Morello.  He is the only reason I still play guitar and the only reason that I have bought a handful of effects simply to immitate him.  I think that if he went solo doing singles with bands like prodigy and stuff like that he could still come up with new sh*t that still kicks everyone elses ass.

tom morello does have all the talent in the world and a real intense sound but the band were as a whole ratm but now with out zack its not a band any more they dont have the right to call themselves ratm without zack im saying he had everything look at there first 3 records compared to there 4th one now zack has left everything is screwed without zack writing their songs they cant be the same band dont get me wrong im saying they still got an awesome band happening but it just wont be half as good now that it is not complete

i think that they should change their name because zack got the name from a song from his earlier band in 1990(i think?) anyway i hear that Cris Cornell is gonna be the new lead singer. i also heard something "said to have been" one of their new songs. first off i have nothing against Cris Cornell but i think he's the wrong guy for the band. second if what i heard was really what they're gonna sound like ( kind of an alternative band) than morrello should leave because there was no defining guitar solo's or weird distortions that i have grown to love. to say it plainly: he's average and that is not good with tom's talents. I don't know what to do anymore without ratm. it's insane just to think about it. me and a few friends are going to try to start a band and we've tried to model the genre music that ratm plays but now we have no guird rail and we'll have to do it by ourselves now. this sux real bad.

Rage has deffinatly changed over the years. Some for the better Some for the worst.  The latest album, despite awesome sounds, had no content like the other albums did.  The first three ruled, but the hard "shoot the *n-word*s" rap is not what i was looking for in a band that spoke polliticaly for a decade. Hopefully everything will fall into place with sound gardens' chris cornell. Otherwise the music industry will have lost a giant.  Peace, love, Revolution.

I want to know why zack
quit the band? some how all the rage fans will find out sooner or later
but i have a theory of why zack quit. maybe science the band was gaining more popularity and every body was getting the message that zack let out. rage became more powerful, and more and more people liked them. I think that the U.S. govit. was scared that maybe this band was not good to have around. so they made zack quit...
i dont know where i came up with this it might be true who knows but no matter what rage against the machine will always be one of the greatest bands in the history of the world.

i wish that zack hadnt left, his music had me slitting my wrists and beating the hell outta pplz for years. *sigh now i have to listen to this queer guy clap his hands while he sings "Testify"(seen in Battle of Mexico City DVD).

Zack was the whole band. He kicked some ass and needs to come back.  Without him they are not going anywhere.  I heard Audioslaves new songs yesterday when their cd came out and it's not good.  Tom Morello is amazing but he can't do what he used to with that lead singer.  With Zack they all went nuts and it was awesome.  Watch clips of them at Woodstock and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Well, I was sad to see Zack go, but you gotta do what you gotta do.  I was amazed with his lyrics and the way his voice fit with the music.  Good Luck to the remaining members of the group.  I hope evrything goes well for you.  I have one thing to say, though.  If the new lead singer of RATM isn't politically focused in his lyrics or actions, I think it would only be right to change the name of the group.

I still can't believe Zack left the band.  It was a shock.  His lyrics were so damn great.  "If the vibe was suicide then you would push da button," he spoke the truth.  He wasn't scared to call things out with his lyrics.  I think the old RATM was the last band that truly stood for something anymore.  Just like Nirvana or Bob Dylan.  RATM had a cause and changed things.  I had four of their CD's but I liked listening to them on the radio the best,  becasue I knew that there were a bunch of other people listening to the same thing as me.  The truth.

well, i agreed with you all that the band would be nothing with out zack at first but......HAVE YOU GUYS HEARD THEM???? ok so they aren't as cool and funky and as meaningfull with their lyrics as rage was and chris could never compare to zack but........OMG THEY f*ckIN ROCK! does everyone else agree? still, rage will always be the best, they're all i ever listen to these days lol....and does anyone else think that tom morello is the most amazing guitarist to ever walk this earth???

ratm cant go on whitout zack. he was the brain in all thoose things they did. people wont remember ratm as tom morello and the other members. they will remember it as zack de la rocha
