Review: Bring It On

When waiting in line to purchase my ticket I wish I had a paper bag over my head.?Especially when I reached the end of the line and the ticket seller looked at me expectantly.?I manage to mumble "Bring It On" and clear my throat, not making eye contact with the person handing me my ticket.?I hid behind my friend who had persuaded me to watch the teen flick.?I remembered the sentence, "I can't believe I'm going to watch this" escaping my lips before I entered the theatre.?To my surprise, middle-aged couples filled the seats.?The teenyboppers I had been expecting to see were nowhere to be seen.?

A movie about cheerleaders could've really tainted Kirsten Dunst career but director Peyton Reed displayed a movie that made peppy cheerleaders tolerable.?He added humor that gave to the light mood of the film.?A basic summary of the major aspects of the plot are as follows: Five-time reigning champions lead by peppy Dunst come upon a stumbling block after realizing their cheers unoriginality, being ripped off a poor Los Angeles high school cheerleading team.?Weeks before the national cheerleading competition, she comes face to face with the talented team from Los Angeles.?Dunst is forced to come up with a new and original routine.?Disaster strikes again and again for Dunst's team, however, in the end impressive high throws and intricate dance moves win over the judges.?Nope, they don't take first place but they do display a good example of sportsmanship.?A cheating boyfriend, a gay cheerleader, a cute romance are some aspects that added to the plot.?

Conclusion: My reaction after watching the movie was quite the opposite of what I displayed when walking in.?The movie bestowed an upbeat mood to the viewers after the movie had ended.?Overall, I liked it.?Sure, there were cheesy moments here and there but elements of a plot were visible.?It was good, but not great.?Compared to watching Eddie Murphy act out all the parts of Nutty Professor 2 or a bunch of horny people on Whipped, Bring It On offers moviegoers a light movie to boost up their mood.?My rating: 8.0/10.0.?
