On December 2001, Dreamworks will release the animated fantasy movie Shrek in Imax's 150 digital 3-D theatres around the nation. The Imax version of the film will screen about six months after its release in conventional theatres (that flat 2-D screen which I pay lots of money to see).

Shrek stars the voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, John Lithgow and Linda Hunt. It is a story about an ogre whose swamp has been overrun by annoying fairy-tale creatures.

Also, the Imax release of Shrek will have a slightly different ending from the conventional release. The different Imax ending is geared to take advantage of the 3-D format. Looks like I'll have to wait for a little more than a year to see what kind of stuff animators can do with an Imax dome screen.
