They're Rubber, You Dumbass!

Outside Magazine in its current issue describes how the activists got wind that several of Clooney's scenes required him to be shown with fish that had landed aboard ship and were struggling for life. The fish were actually rubber and/or mechanical but looked lifelike to the protesters. Said Clooney: "These people came down to the dock to protest the fact that we were killing fish, and we were like, 'They're rubber, you dumb ass!'"

And besides, could you imagine the cost of doing those things with real fish? They'd keep dying all the time. This is the first time I've ever heard of animal rights people defending fish on an individual basis. I can understand most animal rights protests, but fish? Can you think of an animal that is designed more explicitly for consumption? It's painful to think that these people would be wasting their time on movie sets when they could be protesting dams that have serious ecological impacts.
