Moving Forward with Full Motion Video

RealNetworks, the company that brings you RealPlayer is introducing a new product called RealSystem 8 that boasts VCR-quality, full motion video over the Internet. The real kicker, according to ZDNet, is that the full motion video aspect of it will work with dialup connections. For the broadband users they are saying that near DVD-like quality will be accessible. Its features include MP3 streaming, Flash 4 and HTML support, iPoint (a system that allows "broadcasters to seamlessly insert customized virtual advertisements and interactive program enhancements into RealVideo 8"), and RichFX, which allows 3D CG video to be transmitted at 1/20th the size of traditional video.

Seems impressive. I don't know if it'll take off, but it'll definately help pave the way for a richer multimedia experience on the Internet.
