(IDG)-Intel has opened a new wireless application development center in Japan.?The center, Intel's second worldwide, is in Tsukuba, and will focus on development of technologies for next generation cellular telephones.?Cell phone-based Internet access is already popular in Japan, and the country is expected to be the first in the world to introduce next generation cellular when NTT Mobile Communications Network (NTT DoCoMo) launches a WCDMA (wireless code division multiple access) network in April 2001.?The new development center joins an existing center Intel opened in the "Wireless Valley" area near Stockholm, Sweden, in November 1999.?Like Japan, Sweden is a leader in the use of wireless Internet.?Intel is hoping to gain knowledge from these markets and local companies to further development of chips specifically for mobile communications and Internet applications.
