Friends of Letterman Will Sit in on Late Show

Celebrity friends of David Letterman will be sitting in for the star as guest interviewers beginning Monday, the show's executive producer, Rob Burnett, told reporters.?The show calls the celebrities "guest interviewers" rather than guest hosts, emphasizing that the celebrity "interviewer" will tape interviews with other "Late Show" regulars in which they will talk about their experiences on the show and with Dave.?Charles Grodin kicks off the series on Monday's show with interviews with Regis Philbin and actress Julia Roberts.?On Tuesday, Regis Philbin takes the interviewer microphone to chat with comedian Jerry Seinfeld and actor-director Danny DeVito.?Burnett said the guests were chosen because they are each close friends of the star.?He added that they each have done "amazing things" as guests in the past.?The producer made the announcement at an afternoon conference call for members of the media.?Burnett said the show has no firm plans for the week of February 14, stressing that reports of Letterman's return on that date have been overstated, though not ruled out.?The star would likely come back only a few nights a week when he does return.?Letterman continues to recover from the quintuple bypass surgery he underwent last month.?Burnett said the comic is still cracking wise during his convalescence.?
