Pressure Urticaria: too much pressure on the skinPressure Urticaria, as the term implies, is one kind of urticaria that is brought about when certain pressures are appied on the skin. It is actually one form of physical urticaria, which also means the cause is due to physical factors as opposed to others like food intake or internal causes.
Pressure Urticaria is also commonly referrred to as delayed pressure urticaria, because the symptoms usually develop within a few hours (3 to 12 hours) after a local pressure has been applied. Symptoms include swelling on the skin, and pain that can be accompanied by being itchy and burning. The most commonly affected areas include the hands, legs, face, and buttocks. Unknown to many, even the simplest activity or routine that can add pressure could actually as stimuli for pressure urticaria. This may involve walking, standing, wearing of tight clothes (bra straps, shoes, watches, belts), or even when sitting on a hard, rough surface. Handling tools that may add pressure like hammer or screwdriver are also possible factors. It's not easy to treat pressure urticaria. It's even harder to avoid the factors that can bring about this disease, specially if these factors are already a part of your daily routine or part of your job.
