Urticaria Pigmentosa: That Itchy Feeling...

Urticaria Pigmentosa, also refered to as Generalized Eruption of Cutaneous Mastocytosis, is a rare disease that affects both children and adults. While this is most common to childrens under the age of five, statistics shows that even adults can suffer from this type of disease. The good news for children is that it is easier to treat if they develop that during their young age. Although adults are least likely to develop this, those who suffer from it are most difficult to treat as well.

Urticaria Pigmentosa happens when the infected skin cells, also known as mast cells, rise to the surface of the skin. These mast cells would start to irritate the skin, causing it to itch. Once the person suffering from it starts to rub or scratch, lesions would begin to form and can even spread to other part skin areas. Furthermore, welts and hives would begin to appear as well, and can further lead to a severe case if left untreated.
