Chronic Hives: A Skin Disorder that Would Not Go Away By JackDavidson, (DT) September 9, 2010 9:18 AM PT |
Chronic Hives: trick or itch!Ever heard of chronic hives? If this does not ring a bell, then the term "urticaria" should make it sound more familiar. Actually, both chronic hives and urticaria are the same. The word Hive is just a layman's term, while urticaria is its medical name. The word chronic adds more description to this case. In general, chronic hives refers to the red or pinkish raised welts that appear on the skin. There are also cases wherein the welts, also known as hives, appear in white color instead of red. This skin disorder can make hives appear in small spots or in combined map-like areas on the skin. In time these hives will disappear without a trace. However, it does not mean that it marks the end of chronic hives, because a new one can instantly replace it. It may not necessarily appear on the same spot where the previous one appeared, it can appear on any other part of the body's skin.
Chronic hives are different from mild hives. In most cases, these hives will easily fade away in a few hours to a day. Chronic hives, on the other hand, can stay longer, spanning several weeks to months. It is also common for chonic hives that goes away, only to appear again after a short period of time.
