Louis, a natural loner and dreamer, has just arrived at New York, looking for a fresh new start after leaving his job at a Princeton preparatory school. He found his way to live in a rented apartment owned by Henry Harrison, a rather strange fellow and very eccentric. One of Henry's job is to act as an extra man, a term that refers to a social escort assigned to wealthy widows in the Manhattan high society.

Eventually these two guys slowly got familiar with one another, and went on to some enjoyable series of adventures.
