With some exceptionscop records are public records. There are various different types cop records - staff records, pension records, administrative records, as well as various registries managed by each district police department - registry of joiners, registry of leavers, and so on. While some records are public and can be viewed by anyone, there are also some cops records that are not available to members of the general public.

The information contained in cops records depends on the type of the records. For example staff cops records file details about the name, rank, warrant number, dates of appointment and removal and the division where the police officer was working.
