Military death records can be found at The National Archive. In general anyone can access any military death record. Of course anyone interested in finding US military death records must be aware how to start their search.

The National Archive manages millions of military records and there are different departments responsible for the different types of military records. This is why the first thing you should do is to check which department is responsible for the type of record you need to find. You can do so by contacting The National Archive or browsing their website.

After you have located the department that takes care of the US military death records you need to obtain, you need to see what he request process involves.

For example if you want to request records from The National Military Personnel Center, you need to complete standard form 180 while requesting records from The National Archives is done with DD form 214.
