How to request an air force personnel record?

Air force personnel records are public. You can request your own record, the records of members of your family or any other air force personnel records.

The first thing you need to know in case you need to get such records is where you can search for them. In general military personnel records can be obtained either at The National Archives (situated in Washington DC) or at The National Personnel Records center (located at St. Louise, Missouri). You will be asked to fill in a request form and afte some time the requested records will be posted to you. How long these kind of searches take varies and depends on the information you managed to provide in the request form.

A common choice for data collection in cases when the original air force personnel records cannot be found is the pay voucher record. A pay voucher can give you the name, service number, date of enlistment and separation and the type of service of a person.

Another alternative source of information may be military medical records. They would provide information about the date and place of birth of the person, their age, race and gender.
