Probate court records are of great interest to historians as they provide useful information about the history of buildings or other real estates. Many people are also looking for old and current probate records in search for more information about their family history.

Some probate court public records can be accessed online. In this case you will not need anything but the name of the deceased person. However older records may not be fully available online. In such cases, you will need to make a trip to the probate court and look up their archives. Here are some useful tips to help you get started.

Find out as much information as you can for the deceased person - name, where he or she last lived and when they died. This will help you figure out in which court the records may be and will also speed up your probate court records search.
Check if the court has a website and if there is an online index of the old records they have.
If you are unable to find the records under the persons name, try looking for records under the names of his or hers relatives.
