Jayne (played by Parker Posey) and Laura (played by Demi Moore) have since been living in the big city with separate families. When they learn that their dad is having a deteriorating medical condition, they both decided to come back to their family home in Pittsburgh to take care of their father. Both ladies were living in different situations, with Jayne living away from the harsh side of life since her early childhood years while Laura being the opposite. Things get a bit complicated with their father being in denial of his condition. To make matters worse, Their father even takes in a lover.
