Mad Magazine Cartoonist Dies at 68

Don Martin, a longtime Mad magazine cartoonist who drew an assortment of wild-haired characters, punctuating the action with wacky words like "SPLOP!" and "POIT!!," has died.?He was 68.?Martin died of cancer at Baptist Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Christine Thompson said Friday.?During his 30-odd years as a Mad contributor, Martin based his humor on misery and misfortune, to crack "sick" jokes.?The magazine dubbed him "Mad's Maddest Cartoonist."
