Xbox cannot read disc: More into the CD

Aside from checking the physical attributes of the CD - i.e. looking out for dirt, scratches and physical damage - you might also want to find out where the disc was manufactured as well. Consoles are designed to support CDs that were created within the region where they were also produced. A console made in North America, for instance, will only be able to play discs coming from the same region and not the ones that are sold in Europe or in Asia. Your Xbox 360 cannot read disc from any other region other than the one it is supposed to be created for.

To find out which country or region your console and the disc come from, you can check out the codes on their packages. NTSC, for instance, is for North and South America while NTSC-J is for the Asian region. To prevent the Xbox 360 stuck disk problem, you need to make sure that the game disc code matches the one on your console.

Xbox 360 disc stops: more than just the CD

But you can't always lay the blame on your CD when the Xbox won't readTroubleshooting Xbox 360 that Won't or Cannot Read Disc disc all of a sudden. To find out if there's nothing wrong with the CD itself, you can try playing it on another console or a DVD or CD player. If the other device can read it but the Xbox cannot read the disc, it's the console that's encountering a problem.

When the 360 says unplayable disc even when there's nothing wrong with the CD itself, you may need to get the console in for repair. It's possible that the lens on the DVD drive may just need to be cleaned or, in more drastic cases, it may need to be replaced.
