Tropic Thunder Ends Dark Knight Box Office Reign By Jack, (DT) August 18, 2008 12:14 PM PT |
![]() After a four weekend reign, The Dark Knight has finally been dethroned from its number one spot this past weekend by Ben Stiller's comedy Tropic of Thunder. The Dark Knight may have lost his hold on first place, but don't you worry, the studios behind the Batman franchise still collected a cool $16.8 million. Bringing their total rake to $471.5 million, earning them the title of second highest grossing film of all time, after Titanic and well above any Star Wars flick. Speaking of Star Wars, Warner Bros. other wide release, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, grossed an estimated $15.5 mill for the 3rd spot in the weekend rankings. Weak reviews and audience reactions giving, couldn't have helped the animated spinoff at the box office. Other openers this weekend included Kiefer Sutherland in the horror flick Mirrors, at fourth place with $11.1 million, and Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona, with $3.7 million (limited release).
