Following in the footsteps of Garfield and Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Smurfs will soon grace the big screen with their live-action/computer animated presence. Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation are teaming up on the film, with David Stem and David Weiss in talks to write the script. Columbia co-president Doug Belgrad had this to say: "We're very excited to introduce a new generation to Papa Smurf, Smurfette and the other smurftastic Smurfs in all of their 'three-apple-tall' glory." No, seriously, he really did say that.
