The VHS version of Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace is due to arrive in stores on April 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but no DVD release has been announced at all.?The trade paper observed that Menace's producer, George Lucas, a pioneer in digital filmmaking, has never permitted a DVD release of any of the Star Wars films, although, it said, a disc version of at least the effects-heavy Phantom Menace, the most recent offering, may be in the works.?Meanwhile, the Reporter said today (Thursday) that sales of DVDs totaled 1,274,497 units during the week ended Dec.?19, the first time ever that DVD sales had exceeded the one million mark.
